SELLER WON'T SELL IN HER OWN STATE?
Just curious, why would an eBay seller from Iowa (or any state) refuse to sell her items to buyers in her own state? She even says she'll cancel purchases if the buyer comes from Iowa. Doesn't seem that she's doing this to avoid having to pay a state sales tax as the buyers would be paying that. I can understand why shipping to US territories might be an issue, but not sell to people in your own state?

·1 year agoA seller can't block any state of the 48 continental states.
But a seller can block a buyer before a purchase.
I guess if the seller knows a buyer is questioning about an item that will be sent to their own state the seller can then block the buyer.
Not sure what happened in your own personal situation to come to ask the question.
A buyer might ask too many questions and seller blocks the buyer...thinking buyer might have too much 'drama' in the sale.

My family moved away from Iowa, to California, when I was a young teenager.
I hope my Iowa cousins know they could always ask me to buy from that seller.
I would re-package their purchase and mail it right back to them in Iowa.

·1 year agoThere can be a few different reasons for this.
An example: On my selling ID, I sell items that my state (upper midwest) decided required more control and restrictions (still does not make any sense). If I sold over a certain dollar threshhold in my state, it required (annually) a full background check, special insurance, bonding, and a few other things... all of which would have cost me a few thousand dollars per year. Not money that I wanted to spend. Selling my items out of state was not a problem.
Never reached the state threshhold, but if it was getting close, I certainly would have considered rejecting all sales within my state. Sometimes state laws and restrictions can come into play. And in my state, these specific restrictions put a few people out of business.

·1 year agoPlenty of reasons. Here are a few:
- deranged
- self-loathing Iowan
- behind the times: thinks that he has to charge sales tax to those in his state, and doesn’t want to deal with the hassle
- late in updating his terms: refusal to sell to Iowans is from a time when he needed to collect sales tax and remit to the state
- seller’s terms were a bad joke
- none of the above: you are confused, deranged, or just asking a question about a made-up scenario

·1 year agoSellers can't block any states except AK/HI.
Sellers can't cancel order based on state unless it's something like the state has regulations about what can be shipped there (like live plants, etc).
If sellers do cancel orders based on state for their own weird reasons that have nothing to do with laws and regulations, and they choose a reason like 'problem with address' instead of what they're supposed to use which is 'out of stock', you can report the seller to eBay as it's a violation of eBay policy.
That said, when I see sellers with crazy terms of service I hit the back button pretty quick. I don't want to give them my hard-earned money.

Maybe the seller is a transplant from Nebraska and hates Iowa? Who knows why sellers block buyers from any U.S. state? I do not think it has anything to do with taxes since the buyer pays them, but maybe the seller doesn't realize it. Is the seller new to selling on ebay?

·1 year agoHey. I resemble that remark, nyuk nyuk. I'm in Nebraska and I don't hate Iowa. Well, I'm in Nebraska now, but I was a transplant from Texas.
When people learned that I moved here from Texas, some would ask me which football team I was going to root for, the Cornhuskers or the Longhorns. I'd say I didn't know yet, but one thing was certain, we both hate the Sooners.

·1 year agoI suspect the Iowa seller has some sort of issue with the Iowa dept of revenue (Or whatever
they call it)
And, Like somebody up thread posted, The seller might just be deranged.
