Seller wont answer any questions and wont allow purchase
This seller offers combined shipping but doesnt say on his site what that combination will add up to and it doesnt auto-reduce in the cart. First i asked about the name of an item and got no answer. Several hours later i asked about what to expect for combined shipping (like will it be one item charged and the rest free or a dollar off the other items or what)? ... so i could determine what to leave in and what to take out before combining. Again no answer. He must have simply decided to forbid me from buying anything. Maybe i didnt ask my combined shipping question right or maybe he thought it too much trouble to answer. I think if thats the case, he shouldnt even leave the ask questions open. Or dont even have combined shipping offers. It feels rude to just ignore and exclude someone from buying altogether. Yet ebay doesnt even offer a way to settle a pre-buying situation. I guess i dont need his items at all anyway. But it just seems like it shouldnt be like this.

·5 months agoHi, You likely already did this - but just in case you didnt' think of it. If you look on your sellers listing under shipping & click on "see details" It is possible that your seller already has his combined charges stated. That is how ours is set uo anyway. Good Luck!!

·5 months agoThey do.
The seller can ignore you or answer you.
Both equally acceptable.
...and you can buy or not buy.
Both equally acceptable.

·5 months agoIf a seller has set up combined shipping for their buyers, you must first add all items to the cart. Please know as you add each item, the shipping does NOT automatically combine. You must select "checkout" , in order for the shipping costs to be combined. You will be able to see the shipping total at this point, before your payment. Many buyers do not know this and eBay doesn't really explain this -- they "push" free shipping. We all know that there is no such thing as free shipping!
Did you take a look at shipping details? If on a phone, look for the small arrow to the rt. of the shipping cost - select that arrow and you will see shipping discounts. If on a laptop/desktop, go to the shipping, returns and payments section , about mid page . See the shipping cost and "see details". Select "see details" and this will show the shipping discounts that a seller has set up and their handling time ( how many days they have to ship out your package based on what that seller has scheduled as "working days").

There's another reason why some sellers don't respond to questions. This is a reason that hasn't been mentioned above.
Some sellers, often very high volume ones have their communication preferences set to not receive questions from buyers. (Personally, I don't think that's a smart choice but they're allowed to run their own businesses as they see fit.)

OP5 months agoIn that case does the button still work to ask them and buyers dont even know it wont be received? That wouldnt be good. But i think it was more than that. I think he blocked. Because after i asked the ebay cart wouldnt let me check out from him even if i still wanted to without figuring out the shipped problem he created. However im sure its best bc i would not have been happy to dicover his seeds wouldnt match the photo

"This seller offers combined shipping but doesnt say on his site what that combination will add up to and it doesnt auto-reduce in the cart".
If you are trying to buy several different items from a seller, how would they know how much of a discount there will be until you are done making purchases? They would not know the package size and weight until then.
If you are trying to buy several of the same item from a seller and they do not have combined shipping set up Ex: Buy 1 item pay $5.95 shipping, each additional add $1.00 then again until they know how many of the item will be purchased the shipping will add up to.
You haven't given us much to go by to be able give you more exact answers. Are these Buy It Now Items? Items you have made offers on, or auction items you have bid on? Have you checked the seller's feedback profile to see how many feedback they have for selling?
Some sellers have a fair number of feedback and even a 100% rating, but most or all for Buying not selling at least in the last year. Depending on whether or not they have declared how they handle combined shipping, you may have to pay the full shipping price, and once the seller knows what the combined cost is, they will refund the difference.
One seller you've bought from has very open ended combined shipping, rules on the listing page, so one has to Click on the See details button next to the listing's shipping cost, to see what their combined shipping rules are. Since most of their items probably weigh close to the same amount, and the package sizes are pretty much the same, they should have the multiple quantity discount described above posted on the listing.

OP5 months agoThe items were all small seed packages. Anyway he just lost an almost $20 order for being unwilling to answer questions nor structure his seeds so that the cart would automatically make the deductions his listings indicate will happen with quantity orders. But i think one of his seeds is not the species his photo depicts which is why i asked the name (not generic) of it and prob why he wouldnt say. I found another source to buy the things by now.

·5 months agoI would say you did the seller a favor.
For the most part, eBay sellers are one-man (and woman) - band shops. Many have fulltime jobs and only do eBay part time. Some sellers are stay-at-home- moms and work on eBay inbetween changing diapers, feedbabies, etc.
You asked a question, which is fine, but by your own words when they did not answer within "several hours" (which I take to mean 3 hours), you wrote again. Even a large company's customer service department isn't likely to respond to you within three hours.
You need to learn to be more patient with people. I would have blocked you the moment you sent a second question within 3 hours. It is too much trouble dealing with people like you and definitely not worth your $20.

OP5 months agoThe second question wasnt even like the first question. First was what is the actual species of seeds bc no one was selling the species his photo showed for that amt. Next question was about his variable shipping arrangement. So whatever dude!

·5 months agoAgain - buyers who ask multiple questions spread out over time tend to be problems. Your attitude here proves my point. I suspect there are a great number of people blocking you as they read this.

OP5 months agoWith that kind of answer you can go ahead and block me now so we never have to do any business. Everyone elses answers were okay. Goodnight

OP5 months agoThey were all buy it now and no I had not purchased from him before. At least not that I recall anyway. I moved on from it though

·5 months agoA minimum of 24 hours to answer, and like said, if the weekend give it until Monday.

·5 months agoMany sellers will block buyers they feel are going to be high maintenance.
Experience leads them to feel this is a way of avoiding "bad business".
There are sellers who strongly believe that "no business is better than bad business".
Buyers who show concern over very small amounts of money are often bad business.

·5 months agoSellers are not required to answer your questions. I would give the seller 24 hours to respond if they do not the I would suggest moving on and purchasing from a seller who does reply to your questions. This isn't really a question if they shouldn't be like this but rather the seller either is unable to answer your questions right now or refuses to answer your questions. Just deal with someone who does.

·5 months agoThe seller might not be checking their messages or responding right now, and will get back to you on Monday or when they’re ready, or something about your message might have made them worry you’d be a problem customer or just someone they didn’t want to sell to, and they may have blocked you. If so, they will not see any messages from you after they blocked you.
If so, or even if you just don’t get a response or get one you don’t like, you need to just move on and find a different seller. Sellers are allowed to block any buyer they wish without justification, and will never be forced to unblock them.

OP5 months agoThanks. Fair. I dont want to give him my business either at this point

·5 months agoNot all sellers are full time. They might not check messages every day.

OP5 months agoYep. I gave him two days.

·5 months ago@celssi Obviously depends on what the items are. If they are different, then they are different size and weight-therefore different price and NOT something that could be stated in a listing.
If all items are the same, the seller could have EASILY set up so that 'First Item $6; Each Additional $1' (for example.
As well as what @12345jamesstamps stated- it's Sunday. Do you expect all sellers to be on the computer 24/7??
celssi
OP5 months agoYes i could have done it had he set it up as easily as that but it wasnt. He had a free shipping it you buy 4 offer. But then it only applied to some seeds and not others. All the other seeds had kinda high indiviual shipping that still added up after the buy 4 for free shipping had gone in the cart. He then said you were supposed to check out a special way to get a "reduced amount" (not disclosed how it would be reduced) for shipping on that type. Plenty of other seed sellers dont do this. They keep it simple. Once you hit the minimum the shipping is free for all. Seeds arent heavy

·5 months agoWere questions asked before Friday 5PM?
Some sellers do enjoy the weekend and don't reply to emails until Monday.
