Seller wants more shipping cost after I paid for it?
Can a Seller charge me more after the item has been paid for? They are in Canada & I am in the USA.
I paid for the item, and now the next day, he wants my email to charge me more.
When I said to go though eBay to fix it, he sent me this:
"No problem. Ill send it ups instead and you can pay the tariffs when you get it, plus ups's brokerage fee."

No. Regardless of where either party is located.
"I paid for the item, and now the next day, he wants my email to charge me more."
Don't give it to him.
eBay allows buyers to refuse delivery when they are being asked to pay postage due or, nowadays, a tariff. You would file an Item Not Received (INR) claim through eBay's Money Back Guarantee (MBG), with the reason "Postage Due." eBay will refund your entire purchase price.

·1 month agoThis is incorrect. Refusing delivery because of tariffs due is a whole 'nother animal than refusing because of postage due. The Money Back Guarantee has an exclusion section dealing with "The item was shipped internationally and couldn't be delivered because import charges (customs duties, tariffs, taxes, or other applicable fees) weren't paid". It specifies:
Covered:
The seller indicated that the item would be sent with import charges pre-paid
The import charges were higher than expected because:
The seller overstated the value of the item or
The seller misrepresented the item's location or country of origin
Not covered:
The buyer didn't pay applicable import charges for any other
So it comes down to whether the shipping section of the listing stated that import fees were included in the shipping charges or whether the buyer would be responsible for import fees. If it's the latter then no, the OP can't refuse delivery and be refunded by the MBG.

OP1 month agoThis is stated on the listing for shipping, so I have to pay all and any extra fees?
kathiec
·1 month agoYes, you do. It specifically says under International shipping: "International shipping - items may be subject to customs processing depending on the item's customs value". It goes on to say:
"As the buyer, you should be aware of possible:
• Delays from customs inspection.
• Import duties and taxes which buyers must pay.
• Brokerage fees payable at the point of delivery."
It's essential with the current tariff situation in the US that you read the potential tariff implications of any international transaction. You'll have to pay the tariffs on this one.

·1 month ago · EditedThe SELLER is the one requesting more money. Are you saying the buyer needs to pay the SELLER more money??????
kathiec
·1 month agoI'm simply saying that the listing states that the buyer will pay any tariffs. What difference does it make if the seller collects the funds and pays them upfront or the buyer pays them on delivery? The bottom line is that the buyer is required to pay them.
BTW, I have the mental capacity to understand two sentences without the use of all caps and six question marks. 🙄

OP1 month agoI wasn't aware that eBay didn't/doesn't calculate this. I sell international as well, and have never had to ask anybody for more shipping cost after they had already paid. I just assumed the shipping cost was already higher because of it. It seems, I do have to pay more, I didn't realize any of this, but lesson learned. Thank you for replying though.

eBay do look after everything with sellers like yourself who use eBay International shipping. eBay calculates extra everything at checkout and as you'll already be aware, once you've shipped to the Hub, eBay takes over and assumes responsibility. eBay keeps the buyer updated.
Your seller is using economy or standard international shipping, not EIS

OP1 month agoThank you….I tried to talk to him nicely., as I really want the item, he is just rude, refusing to talk to me, even after I said I would pay the difference. He kept saying it's shipped already after each message I sent.

·1 month agoThe seller is correct. The package is delivered waiting for pickup. tariffs are a US tax and it is not up to the seller to pay or adhere to US tax policy.
