Seller wants buyer to pay for duty/taxes to return item into Canada
The item I bought was drop shipped from NY but the seller wants it sent back to Canada. In a message, the seller agrees to pay for shipping but refuses to pay for duty/taxes. Since this item is a not as described item, does the buyer have to pay for duty/taxes for the return or is that also a seller responsibility? The item cost about $125 USD and therefore is subject to duty from what I've read.

·3 years agoebay treats this in a particular way. You ship it just like any other return. If the recipient refuses the duties, if any, their country charges, it is returned to sender. ebay consider that a fulfillment of the return & should refund you. If the seller wants the item back, they have to pay for it like anyone else, if they are required to. That is not the duty of the returnee.
Should the seller refuse to issue you a return label or provide funds in lieu of a label to ship it back, you are refunded & able to keep the item, as the seller has abandoned rights to it. Never ship until they provide a label or funds first.

·3 years agoIf you put 'returned merchandise' on the customs form there should not be any duty charged but even if it is, that's the seller's responsibility.
Who is paying for return shipping? If the buyer is responsible for return shipping then you are only responsible to send it back from the original location of the item which sounds like it was NY. If the seller is paying for shipping then they will have to provide you with a shipping label.
