Seller sent wrong cologne size
I bought a bottle of cologne 1.7 oz and what showed up was a 3.4oz. After I have opened the cologne they reached out asking me to return it or give them more money. Am I under any obligation to do either. My understanding was the sale is final at check out amount and once the item is received “ that’s that” is that correct?

I'm going to push further with you...how much did you pay for the cologne? If we are talking a relatively minor amount (e.g. you paid $50, and the value of what was sent to you is $90), then you are likely fine. If we are talking significant dollar figures, then you may want to reconsider.
When a retailer, eBay seller, whatever, mistakenly sends a customer an item more valueable than what the customer ordered, that is called receiving an unjust windfall. Sellers have a legal right to demand the return of the item or demand you pay the difference. The seller must provide you with the money to send the item back. You are not expected to pay for the expense yourself. There are no freebies in the legal world when it comes to this.
In a pratical sense it can be hard for a small seller to enforce this because you likely live in a completely different state than they are in. They could attempt to do it themselves, but again not very pratical if we are only talking a $50 difference. If we are talking hundreds or thousands of dollars, then a seller might give the legal option a further look. This could involve sending a demand letter themselves or through an attorney, or they could go right to a civil claim in court. eBay has nothing to do with any of that.
My point being is yes, you are clear so far as eBay is concerned. You do need to be aware that if a seller wanted to come after you legally, they could and they would win because the law is on their side.
You indicate in other posts that you may want to buy from them again. It sounds like you have a pratical reason to do the right thing. Not to mention the fact you have advertised to sellers on a public message board that should they make a mistake and send you the wrong item, you aren't going to work with them to get the item back. You may find yourself on more than one seller's blocked buyer list.

You are under absolutely no obligation to return it or send more money. In eBay's eyes the transaction is complete. The seller's mistake is on them, not you.

·2 weeks agoThe seller may place you on their blocked bidder list, but we have no way of knowing if that is what they intend.

·2 weeks agoI think it's quite likely the seller will put you on their blocked bidder list. There would be nothing you could do about that. But the flip side of that coin is why would you want to do business with a seller who expects you to pay for their mistake?
