Seller sent the same item twice and is asking for it to be returned without a label..is this a scam?
Summary: mr_potato_man shared an issue about a seller sending the same item twice and requesting its return without providing a shipping label, questioning if this is a scam. Several participants, including tobaccocardyahoo, kathiec, gone.c-33, and others, engaged in the discussion but there are no detailed responses recorded to conclude the consensus or advice given.
I bought an item from a seller, which arrived on time. About 4 days later another of the same item arrived. I contacted the seller to let them know what had happened. They stated it was a supplier problem, and could I send it back. I said I could and I asked for return label. However, they said they couldn't do a return label, but gave me their address and asked that I take it to the post office. Is this a scam?

·4 months agoMore like a careless seller. If you have not opened the package you can just give it back to the carrier as refused. If you opened it, well you could close it up and do the same. That would be breaking a rules a bit however. Just advise the seller to buy a paid label from Paypal and email it to you.

·4 months agoIn this case seller beyond being arrogant..you’re honest enough to return extra item and they want you to pay for shipping…in this case I would take a screenshot of my middle finger and send via eBay messenger…stop communicating and forget about it…

·4 months agoIf could be that they do not know how to get a return label outside of eBay. If they did it thru eBay it would be considered a return and they would have to refund you for the product.
Tell them to purchased a label from who ever they choose then they can send a JPG picture of the label thru eBay messages. You can then print it out.

·4 months agoCan’t you refuse the package return to sender?

·4 months agoUnless I am misinterpreting here, sounds like OP already has the package, so that ship has sailed.

·4 months agoYes, you are.
You can still swim with the manatees even after that ship has sailed.

·4 months agoWas assuming it had already arrived by the OP's statement that " about 4 days later another of the same item arrived". Does that not imply that OP has the item in their possession?
marnotom!
·4 months agoIf the OP knows that they've received two of the same item, that would mean that both packages have been opened up. If the packages have been opened up, they can no longer be considered "refused" by USPS as per what you posted.

·4 months agoIt can only be refused if it hasn't been opened ... OR if it can be repackaged well enough to fool the post office into thinking it hasn't been opened, which isn't that easy to do.

If it hasn't been opened, I think you'll be fine to mark 'RTS' on it and put it in your mailbox with the flag up. Good luck.

You are under no obligation to return the item. Tell the seller that you have no intention of paying to return their (or their supplier's) mistake, and restate that you'll be happy to return the item if they send a return label, or if they can't send a label, send the postage for the return upfront. If they fail to do so the extra item is yours to use, sell, or dispose of as you see fit.

·4 months agoIt is only a scam if you return it and are not reimbursed for the return postage.
No label, no return.
Ebay will not make you return it. Not obvious that you are legally required to return an unsolicited shipment.
Seller is probably an idiot, who had someone drop ship to you.
