Seller scam or fraud?
The seller "" provided me with someone else's tracking number. I contacted USPS and they sent me images, it had a different name and different address. I sent that to the seller and the first time they told me they would look into it. After a few days, I had to open a request. I contacted them again for an update they told me my item had been delivered and that there was nothing they could do. Even after they saw the pictures from USPS clearly showing the wrong name and address with the matching tracking number. Unfortunately, ive heard eBay gives preference to sellers like them. Any advice? Ebay update states: wait until the 19th for them to step in. But seller already said they are not helping.

Looks like the typical "fake tracking scam". It is good to see that USPS was cooperative in this manner. They didn't used to be, but I think in many instances they are sick of this activity as well and more willing to help the victims.
Generally, in these instances if you file with eBay and claim "item not received" you will lose. If you appeal under the same "item not received" you will lose again, and if you file with PayPal or your credit card company for "item not received" you will likely lose again.
You need to contact eBay, (or other entity, but not at the same time) and inform them that this is a FAKE TRACKING SCAM issue. For eBay's procedure it is best accomplished via their social media portals where customer service is aware of this problem, AND have the authority to help you. The customer service you get in chat or callback are not usually useful. One is to use the blue message button at the top of this page:

There are a couple of others, but my list is temporarily lost. Others may be by with the other links. You can, after briefly explaining your FAKE TRACKING SCAM problem (item was not shipped to YOUR address), upload the photos you provided here. That may be enough to get you a refund, or they may stall and require a written note from your Post Office.
If they should throw you under the bus, proceed to your credit card company and insist that this is a FAKE TRACKING SCAM issue, not a regular item not received case.
Good luck to you, and let us know how it turns out.

Have USPS send you a letter stating the tracking number doesn't match the address, you'll probably need it to appeal the case.

·2 years agoThat is the Fake Tracking Scam.
I do not think that purse would weigh 3 ounces either.
If you have to wait until the 19th to file a claim then I guess you will have to wait. Have you tried calling eBay?
When you make you claim for item not received be sure to send both pictures of the Tracking to eBay. This looks like a easy one to reverse but I do not know.

OP2 years agoI've looked for their customer service number but can't locate one. I was even able to locate the actual owner of the tracking number by the information provided. She says that is her tracking number and that she is not associated with that seller nor does she sell on ebay.

·2 years agoOn of the many scams offered with internet sales is to Send a Random Item to a Random Address within you same Zip Code. They input the Tracking Number into your order and when it is delivered eBay sees your item as delivered. This makes it very difficult to get a refund, but not impossible.
When you talked to this person, is the item they received something they actually ordered from eBay? I am not sure if the same tracking number can be copied to two different orders from two different eBay Users. If their item was a eBay order will they give you their eBay User ID? Their User ID would be helpful for eBay to see the Tracking Number used twice in their system.
eBay will not exactly give you a phone number. You must go through help screens and chat with their computers. But after a while you can ask the chat for an Agent and sometimes they will connect you. After a while there is also an option to have them call you.
