seller said he is unable to send refund unless I close request??? Should he be reported???
One item I ordered did not arrive, so, I opened a request. The seller asked me if I wanted a replacement or refund. I wanted a refund. The message I got was very politely asking me to close the request in order for them to proceed with the refund.
I replied (very politely too)that I did not want to do that in case something went wrong with the refund as I believe, once a request has been closed you cannot re-open it.
The next message I got was : ""Dear Customer. Kindly close the request we are ready to send the refund we can't send refund when the request is open if you want we are ready to send you a picture kindly trust us close the request so we can send the refund."
This, to me, looks very dodgy, so, I was wondering if I should report this seller to EBAY

Seller opens their messages and sees where a customer has started an INR request because they did not receive their item.
Seller responds to request with tracking number (hoping there was just a short USPS delay somewhere and the item will arrive in a few days)
Few days go by and seller opens messages and sees where the buyer has opened a case (asked eBay to step in and help).
Seller tracks package, sure enough, it has not been delivered..AND...enough time has now gone by that the package is probably lost.
Time for seller to accept responsibility and send refund.
BUT, seller cannot send refund due to the buyer opening a case.
SO, buyer must now wait several days/weeks? for eBay to step in and help and send refund.
Your seller is telling the truth.

·2 years agoThis seller is being “very dodgy†with you: this seller is not being truthful.
First, do NOT close the case under any circumstances. When you receive your full refund from the seller, the case will automatically close.
Second, if you were to close the case before receiving your full refund then you will have no hold over the seller: you will not be able to reopen the case or open a new case.
Third, if you were to close the case before receiving your full refund then, most likely, the seller will ignore you and keep your money and keep the item for which you paid. No honest seller would direct you to close the case using the excuse “we can't send refund when the request is openâ€. The statement “we can't send refund when the request is open†is NOT true.
Fourth, when you opened your request for a refund, eBay provided you with a date by which the seller must respond to your request and issue the refund. This is the date after which you may escalate your case to ask eBay to step-in. If the seller does not issue the full refund by this date then you should escalate the case to eBay: eBay will initiate the refund and the seller will earn a strike for not issuing the refund per eBay rules.
I wish you all the best with your refund. I have have been in your situation: I patiently waited through the seller’s various delay tactics and, then, I escalated my request to eBay. eBay initiated the refund and the seller earned a well-deserved strike. You may find it helpful to read about the refund (and return, if you receive an item which is not-as-described) process for both buyers and sellers using the eBay help center information as knowing what a seller is supposed to do when items are not received (or not-as-described) makes it easier to deal with these situations.
Make note of the seller’s ID so that you can avoid making purchases from this seller (if the seller does not block you) in the future.

OP2 years agoThanks, Yes, I have told him I would get advice from Ebay and so far....... no reply. I guess I'll get on to ebay to sort it then. It's daft! it's only £ 3.99 but I don't like being taken for a mug. Turns the old tadpole into a crazy frog 🙂

·2 years ago1st; seller is feeding you a line of.... as any seller can 'refund' at any time, before a case is opened, after a case is opened etc. In fact, they are given 2 options when seeing the case 1.) enter tracking number 2.) refund customer.
Another note- once a NR is opened, even if it's 'false' or 'shows up next day' or or...it STILL counts against a Sellers Metrics, no matter what.
But, as others stated, they want you to 'close' the case so they can then NOT give you any $$.

OP2 years agoYep, that's what I thought. Never mind, I'll get the refund through EBAY

·2 years agoHi @old-tadpole
NEVER close a claim. You don't be able to reopen it!
I wouldn't bother reporting something like this, because we don't know for sure what's in the seller's mind. I would tell the seller something like this:
Dear Seller:
It's okay. If you're not able to refund me without my closing the claim ... I'm pretty sure that eBay will be able to refund me once I'm able to ask them to step in.
Then let us know if the seller miraculously finds a way to send the refund. 🙄 ðŸ˜

·2 years agoNo, don't close the case.
There's been some buyers that receive the same message from the seller and don't know why they can't refund.
There was a seller a few months ago trying to refund a buyer and he kept getting the message that they couldn't refund because the case was open and it needed closed before they could refund.
If they don't refund, go back to the case and see if you can ask Ebay to step in.
