Seller requesting additional funds for shipping
The seller states that eBay has told him that the shipping amount must be increased. The seller is asking me to cover that increase. This on an item that I purchased via PayPal but it has not shipped. Any suggestions?

·1 year agoAs everyone says asking for more money after the sale is complete is not the done thing but......
It usually comes down to a couple of things. Did you get it for a bargain price and how badly do you need it. So it may be worth shelling out a bit extra or, unless it's a very rare item, just wait for another to come along.

·1 year agoGoing back to the original question, is the item shipping within the US? There is an ongoing thread about a person buying from the UK who had their shipping jump around alarmingly before they could pay. If within the US, then yes, run out the guns and flag them for asking for more money 🙂

·1 year agoI wouldn't ask to cancel. Let the seller get the defect they earned.
Better yet, stop communicating with them.
Follow @ebooksdiva instructions
If you don't receive the item by the estimated delivery date, open an item not received case.

·1 year agoI agree! Buyers do make mistakes as well as sellers. Don't worry, be happy.
It is ok to walk away from a deal if either party is not happy with it.

·1 year agoWell I personally know of 2 Unpaid item strikes I received after the sellers cancelled transactions saying "Buyer asked to cancel", so I would never recommend a buyer allowing a seller to use it as an easy way out..
I've learned the hard way to go straight to opening a case!

Sometimes it is better just to walk away instead of creating more out of something that is not there. IMHO
As a buyer, i have never had any issues (Zero) with allowing sellers to cancel transactions for various reasons. Every transaction that does not go off without a glitch does not need to be a battle or a disputed.
Sales/Purchases should start off on a good note (buyers and sellers) and if not, you are asking for problems. YMMV

·1 year agoBased on my experience I disagree. I will never allow a seller to cancel a transaction saying "Buyer asked to cancel" again unless I actually did. The 2 unpaid item strikes I got from sellers using that reason are currently restricting my bidding, about 5 mos. more to go.
Before this happened I probably wouldn't care either. But if the consequences I have experienced ever happens to you, you may feel differently.

·1 year agoNo offense but you must have handled those incorrectly. (communication/messaging errors)
Maybe you need to vet your sellers more carefully or consider stopping taking advice from BF Skinner quotes. YMMV

·1 year agoNonsense, you don't know what you're talking about. I am probably the most thorough person with detail.

·1 year agoNope, not when the seller is lying to begin with and telling the buyer that "ebay told him that the shipping amount must be increased."

·1 year agoI think it goes without saying that if someone is trying to scam you, don't bother with them. But the OP really did not make it clear either way and the transaction really does not sound that dire.

I've never heard of this. How could a 'Buyer requested' Cancellation turn into a UPI? The seller didn't cancel initially with your request? 🤔

Nope, I paid and was refunded by the 2 sellers. One was for defective ram, I messaged the seller and they refunded me without opening a claim and they said "Buyer asked to cancel"
Second time , seller used media mail for ram, it arrived at my postal store and with postage due for media mail fraud and they refused it. When the seller got the item back they didn't want to pay shipping again and refunded me saying "Buyer asked to cancel".
Both sellers were able to do this because I never opened a claim first.
Both of these 2 strikes I received happened in sept. 2024, so maybe it was a glitch in the system then, I don't know.
And since I didn't notice these 2 strikes until Jan. 2025 I couldn't appeal them. I think I was told there is a 60 day limit.
I didn't notice them until Jan. 2025 because until you have 3 strikes the bidding restriction doesn't start.
So in Jan. 2025 I received my 3rd strike because of a glitch in auto-pay when it was first rolled out with the 7 days to shop more with combined shipping. After authorizing my payment before bidding, expecting the 7 days, it cancelled the order after the 96 hours and never attempted to process my authorized auto-payment.
In 20 years on ebay, I never had an unpaid item until this all happened. And the total of these 3 orders was only about $60.
In my life I was never late on my mortgage or had an interest charge on my credit cards. But ebay tarnished my reputation out of nowhere.
Anyway, i don't want to hijack this thread. See the link below for the thread on this topic documenting with screenshots exactly what happened to me...

·1 year agoYou handled this one incorrectly. It has nothing to do with not opening a claim first.
Tracking should have shown something to the effect of "refused - postage due. RTS." And when the seller lied about the reason for issuing the refund, you should have reported him.
campanaelia
·1 year agoNope, tracking only shows refused, Returned to sender. USPS has no entry on tracking to indicate the reason was postage due
So ebay will side with the sellers for any refused package, regardless if it was for "postage due", which is another gray area for buyers I've complained about.
Media mail fraud puts the buyer in a bad position, like walking on eggshells, so I was just glad to be refunded

·1 year agoNope, sellers are not allowed to request more money if they didn't charge enough for shipping.
If the seller refuses to ship you can open an Item not Received case one day past estimated date of delivery for a refund. The seller has 2 days to upload tracking into the case showing delivery or a refund. If 4 days pass with no tracking or refund, you can return to the case to ask eBay to step in..

OP1 year agoThank you! In the message the seller sent me he stated that he would “cancel and refund my money “. There is a tracking number as of yesterday but the item has not been received by USPS.
