Seller knowingly listed dead hard drive as "brand new"
Bought what was listed as a brand new seagate 2tb hard drive for my old archival computer.
When it arrived it was in a second-hand bag(not the kind my last seagate 2tb drive came in), and it wouldn't work - no motor hum (even when using a stethoscope or movement of read/write heads). Took it to a computer shop, and they confirmed my suspicion: the drive is COMPLETELY DEAD!
Have tried twice to contact the seller, only to have him ignore me both times. between that and his "no returns" policy, you know darned well he KNEW it was dead when he listed it!

·2 years agoI don't think a seller would do that. After all, it would only result in a not as described case. Even if they let the buyer keep it, they still lose the cost of shipping. Could have gotten knocked around in shipping.
In the early days, they had lock down screws that had to be in place before moving them.

·2 years agoNo seller would intentionally do that just to pay shipping costs both ways.
Click on return this item link, return item.

There is a frustrating glitch in the start return request process where the confirm/submit button is greyed out/not active...
I helped a few people get thru it:
Type a message in the message box. Then place your curser all the way to the left before the first letter and hit the backspace or left arrow button. The confirm button should be active then. (It's a programming error that's somewhat common around the internet.)

·2 years agoJust BREAK UP the comment @megafo_8472 in your return request into TWO lines, like this:
When it arrived it was in a second-hand
bag, and it wouldn't work - no motor hum.
and the submit button will activate.

OP2 years agoI LOVE how you people don't seem to understand that...
WHEN I TRIED FILING FOR RETURN THE SUBMIT BUTTON REMAINED GREY, WHICH MEANS THAT YOU CAN'T SUBMIT!
**bleep**, you people need to spend less time using fleabay as a chatroom and more time seeing all the barriers they've thrown up over the years to screw buyers while protecting dishonest sellers.

It’s a shame that you can’t tell when people are sincerely trying to help you. Your insults aren’t helpful … to you or your case … but I see that you’ve been insulting eBay and its members for years.
That said, if you were asked to provide a photo when filling a case … you wouldn’t be able to submit the return request until you included a photo.
eBay is glitchy. Sometimes you need to try another browser OR file a claim from the eBay Canada website (www.eBay.ca) to get things moving.
You never are at risk for losing your money as long as you paid with a credit card. If you can’t manage to file a claim with eBay … you can request a refund from the Fraud Department of your CC company.

·2 years agoTry visiting https://www.ebay.com/help/home there you should be able to go to the bottom and select contact us. I recommend having Ebay call you that way you are not waiting on hold. Works really well every time I have used and they give you an estimated time to call. As long as the item is not as described and within 30 days from purchase the agent should be able to help you figure things out and determine why that option is not showing up for you. Best of luck!

·2 years agoHave you never read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers?
You received an item that was not as described. Why would you not just open an item not as described case? The seller will be required to send you a prepaid return label and to refund you in full when the item is received back.
Incidentally, the seller's "No Returns" stance does not apply if/when the item is NAD. If a seller could simply say "No Returns" and not have to make things right, how long would eBay have lasted? Wouldn't there be a lot of shady sellers who could just ship you any kind of junk and not be required to accept it back and refund?

OP2 years agoI TRIED - the submit button remained grey!
The only case it would allow to be filed was "item not received"!

A "no returns" policy if just fluff. Go to your purchase history, select a return reason for "not as described" i.e. doesn't match the description or photos. The seller will have three days to reply i.e. send you a return label, or refund. (If it was an international seller, they will have to send you MONEY, usually by PayPal to cover the return shipping cost BEFORE you send it back. Look up how much shipping back to their country will be with the appropriate delivery or signature confirmation and let them know the amount).
If after three or four days with no reply from the seller in the case details, escalate it i.e. ask eBay to step in and help, and all should be good for you. Do not fall for any stupid things like "cancel the case so I can refund" or "accept a replacement". Require a refund ONLY.

OP2 years agoI tried opening an "item not as described" case...
It wouldn't let me!
You know anyone in san diego who could use 60 bucks?

·2 years agoExactly HOW did you try opening the NAD case? Was it still within 30 days of your receipt of the item?
After you opened the case, if you got no response from the seller, did you not return to the case in 96 hours and ask eBay to step in?
Exactly what did you do, when did you do it, and did you follow through at the appropriate time?
There is something wrong or missing here.

·2 years agoHas it been more than 30 days since you received the drive? A not as described return has to be opened no later than 30 days after tracking shows you received the package.
If you're beyond that deadline Paypal gives you 180 days to open a case there, if that's how you paid. Or you can dispute the charge with your card issuer.

@megafo_8472

I just checked the listing, and it says it is covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee. You should be able to file a case for "item not as described". First lets make sure you are looking in the right place. Go to My eBay>Purchase history. Next to the item you purchased you should see this:
Choose More Actions, and it should open up this menu. Select Return this item:

Then you should see this menu, and select either item is defective or doesn't match description:

Then NEXT.
This of course is a computer view. If you are using a phone, you may wish to try a laptop. Let me know if this helps. If not, we can tag another member who is more computer savvy.

·2 years agoHi @megafo_8472
Come back and talk to us! You’re entitled to a full refund upon return of the item … with the seller paying the return shipping.
We need to know WHY you had difficulty opening a claim with eBay … since it should be a no brainer.
You have other options … but you need to tell us exactly what you’ve done so far.

·2 years agoTo request a return requires a picture now. If you don't attach one, the button will remain greyed out to submit the claim until you add that picture.
