SELLER ISSUED REFUND DUE TO "DAMAGE"
Bought a pair of Ronco cathedral bookends for $25, jumped at the chance as other sellers want $50, $75, even $100 and more for the identical pair. Two days later I saw that a refund had been issued and had a message from the seller saying that he refunded because one of the CAST IRON bookends was "completely broken somehow". My gut feeling is that the seller had "seller regret", was sorry he priced the bookends at $25; a cast iron bookend doesn't get "completely broken", but suppose that he DID in fact find it "completely broken" - a seller can't send photos showing the damage? If I have to return an item received as damaged I have to provide photos, eBay and the seller don't take me at my word, but eBay doesn't require sellers to share a photo of damage when a purchase is refunded DUE to damage allegedly discovered before shipping. I asked the seller for a photo of the damage. If I don't get one due to "Um...I threw it away.....or....my dog ate my camera...) I will leave feedback accordingly, and please sellers, don't jump on me and accuse me of being hostile to sellers, etc. etc. I rarely ever have left negative feedback, have been a buyer for over 25 years and have interacted with many nice sellers. If you issue a refund out of the blue without messaging the buyer first, or if you issue it due to damage but can't be bothered to send the buyer a photo showing the damage, what's a buyer to think?

·1 year agoThere is absolutely no eBay requirement that a seller send pictures to prove his claim that the item was damaged, so he could not send it to you.
Neither you, nor I, nor anyone else can prove that his claim is not genuine.
Unfortunately, I have no camera that I could take a picture to prove my statement.
Maybe that seller doesn't have one either. (And I also have no cell phone.)
Feel free to leave whatever FB you feel is appropriate.

"a seller can't send photos showing the damage? If I have to return an item received as damaged I have to provide photos, eBay and the seller don't take me at my word... ".
There is no Requirement that says a buyer HAS to send photos of a damaged or not as described item. Many of the Indian or Chinese sellers of fake items you've had issues with over the years may ask for photos, but not sending any will not affect a not as described dispute.

Yes appropriate FB but before you do..
What reason was on the cancellation? If it's problem with buyers address then the seller violated policy BUT...
If it's out of stock they received a DEFECT on their selling account already. Defects are pretty harsh and if a seller gets several they lose their selling privileges', sometimes permanently.
So before you leave FB, thinking seller had remorse, if they were honest with the cancellation, it probably really was broken. I don't think they would take a defect if it wasn't.
Just my opinion.
Personal experience:
A month ago or so I bought a coin, a couple days later seller cancelled "out of stock". I was disappointed but at least they were honest.
I left positive FB and said: seller had to cancel but I appreciated their honesty" or something close to that.
I knew they were already getting dinged..

·1 year agoI agree...a photo would be nice...a 'do you still want the items?'
Feedback has to be in a way appropriate...not rude but to the point.
Something like seller cancel sale due to poor eye site where 'cast iron' bookends were completely broken and didn't see it....make it funny.
