Seller erroneously cancelled an item
I won an auction at a $1.00 price with no reserve. The item was worth considerably more than $1.00 and was listed as local pickup. The item description however said that the seller would discuss shipping with the auction winner. I reached out to the seller and tried to discuss shipping and without responding to my messages at all they cancelled the order claiming the item was out of stock. Then listed the item as a buy it now for a considerably higher price than I had won the auction at (It was only $1 after all).
I offered to purchase shipping label and send them to the seller. I even had intended upon buying the boxes for them to ship it in since I knew they would loose money just on packaging materials alone.
I have left negative feedback, but i cannot find any way to report the seller to ebay. When I try to open a dispute the only option that does not lead to knowledge base articles is "My item has not arrived" but when I chose that option I am informed that I can't open a case because it was cancelled.
How can I report this seller for making the false claim that the item was out of stock. I feel as if one negative feedback is not enough consequence for dishonorable/disreputable behavior like this.

This sort of thing happens often with newer or inexperienced sellers who use the auction format for the first time. They take ebay's really poor advice to: "Start auctions at a low price to encourage bidding". Which often doesn't work out well for them.
As for not having a reserve many inexperienced sellers do not know the option is available and ebay charges a fee for setting a reserve price, of $5.00 or 7.5% of the reserve price, which ever is greater. The charge is applied whether the item sells or not.
"The item was worth considerably more than $1.00 and was listed as local pickup. The item description however said that the seller would discuss shipping with the auction winner".
That is an invalid shipping term since a shipping method and/or a calculated cost was not given. There would not have been a way for the seller to bill you for shipping.
"I offered to purchase shipping label and send them to the seller. I even had intended upon buying the boxes for them to ship it in since I knew they would loose money just on packaging materials alone".
But it didn't bother you that the seller was going to take a bath on the item's price, even if you had sent a shipping label and boxes? How big of you.
"How can I report this seller for making the false claim that the item was out of stock. I feel as if one negative feedback is not enough consequence for dishonorable/disreputable behavior like this".
You already have your pound of flesh with the negative. The out of stock reason for the cancellation caused the seller to get a defect on their account and possibly having the New seller 30 day payment hold reinstated. If anyone's behavior is as bad as you think the seller's is, it is yours.
FYI, if you only leave negative feedback for your sellers, you may find that offers you make will not be accepted and bids you place being canceled by sellers who look at your feedback profile. They may also place you on their blocked buyer list.

·1 year agoHoly smokes, four tires for a dollar? That had to be seller error, think I would have cut him some slack on the cancellation.

OP1 year agoWow you guys are quick. I expected hours at least until a response.
Thank you for the information. I was able to figure out how to report the other listing when he listed it as a buy it now. I still can't figure out how to report my order specifically, but I suppose knowing he can't be this disreputable with the next person is some consolation. Clearly I would rather him just ship the items. Barring that I would like to tell him off, but I suppose that helps no one.

·1 year agomy word of advice about communicating with sellers or others on eBay when you have issues, never get personal, always keep it polite and stick to the facts. That'll always get you a lot further.

·1 year agoReporting the other listing is an exercise in futility, as is reporting your order. When the seller cancelled as out of stock eBay meted out an account defect, which is the only punishment they'll give the seller. But it only takes a very few defects for a seller to get slapped with penalties ranging from increased fees to eventual account suspension.
I realize it's disappointing to have this happen. But you've done all you can do.

·1 year agoYes, you are disappointed, but, really, did you believe any seller would sell just ONE tire for a buck, let alone four of them?

·1 year agoA new seller choosing OOS claim is more expensive to them than had they just shipped the item at a loss.

·1 year agoDid you notice that the 'item' was Four automobile tires? It would cost the seller $100-400 to ship a $1.00 item. Most new sellers can't afford that kind of loss. [The new seller obviously followed eBay's horrible advice to 'start an auction at $1.00'.]

·1 year agoIt's possible the seller messed up with the listing and priced it incorrectly. Still he should have caught the error before you bid and won. Cancelling a winning bid without really good justification goes against his seller ratings.

·1 year agoThis may or may not be some consolation, but the seller earned a defect with that OOS claim. Plus there's the fact that his FB rating is 80%. which means that no buyer with any common sense will deal with him.
PS: In case you didn't know it, while 98% may be a great score in school, on eBay, most sellers will shy away from a seller with less than 98.6. The reason this seller's FB nose-dived so quickly, is that he has only 5 feedbacks.

·1 year agoIt was actually the OP's neg that put his seller's feedback in the toilet.

·1 year agoYes, I'm fully aware of it. Was pointing out to the OP that he/she had struck a blow to the seller than any "report" that could be made to eBay.
