Seller cancelled order because "wrong price"?
Hi, was wondering how I proceed... I recently purchased an item that was listed as "buy it now" with offers enabled. From what I can tell the item was recently listed but was up for maybe an hour or two.
I purchased it at the buy it now price and paid for it immediately. Within about 10-15 minutes I received a message from the seller that they cancelled my order because, in their words, "there was a mistake with the price" and stated some arbitrary price that was 4-5x higher than the original listed price.
They did cancel the order and I should receive my money back. But this seems unfair? They put the reason for cancellation as "item out of stock" but very clearly that is not the reason why they cancelled it. To me it seems like this breaks eBay policies on cancelling orders since they misused the cancellation reason.
It's like they had second thoughts and realized they could sell it for more because it sold so quickly? I've sold a small amount of items on eBay myself, and I've had the same realization once or twice after an item sold almost immediately after I listed it. But I'm an honest person and I shipped it out every time, because that's on me, not on the buyer...

Actually, that out of stock reason for the cancellation awarded the seller with a rather serious defect on their account. Sellers are NOT allowed to have too many of these without serious consequences. I don't think they have the reason "error in the listing" as a reason anymore. They could have lied and said there was a problem with your address, or YOU requested to cancel and perhaps could have avoided the defect. In this case they chose to accept it.

OP1 year agoAh okay, I guess that's fair. It might have been a legitimate mistake and I guess the defect is punishment enough. Just kind of disappointing.
