Seller cancelled listing because I won with opening bid
Is there no retribution when a seller cancels and refunds because he hoped to get more for an item? I alone bid on a camera flash and won the item with my opening bid. I promptly paid. Several hours later I received notification that the seller refunded my money, offering me no explanation. I won the item fair and square and he's reneged. I'll be watching if he relists but is this acceptable seller behavior within the guidelines?

What kind of retribution do you want? When the seller refunded your payment, if they did not select a reason, they received a defect on their account from ebay. If they are a new seller that defect will cause them problems for a while.
As @stainlessenginecovers suggested, your seller is probably a new one. They could have a fair number of feedback and a 100% rating, but it could all be for buying, not selling. That's just one reason why you should check the feedback profile of any seller you intend to buy from. Sellers who have not sold in over a year or who are new, run into several issues because of their inexperience. Often they take ebay's poor advice to start auctions at a low start price "To encourage bidding", which often does not work out well for them.

·3 years ago@mydogjake That's very unfortunate and not the correct thing to do by that seller. Unfortunately, eBay cannot force a seller to complete an order. In the meantime, you are allowed to leave appropriate feedback for the seller canceling a paid transaction. Go to your purchase history and at the top underneath Orders click on show hidden items. Just make sure your feedback follows the protocols so that the seller doesn't get it removed. No name calling and don't write beware of seller or use all caps. Just state your opinion and be done with this. Go find this item with another honest seller. Best of luck to you....

Ebay can not force this seller to ship the item.
Inquire with ebay for the reason the seller gave for failure to complete the transaction.
If a truthful reason was given the seller should have received from ebay what is called a defect as a penalty

·3 years agoIt's not acceptable but it's also not prove-able. Sellers list here are no different than sellers on any other website in that when they are 'new', they do not know how things work. They list 'auctions' when they really needed to either start at price they can live with or list as 'buy it now'.
Probably a new seller. Not much you can do but move on to someone with more experience.
NOBODY is going to sell a $100 item for $10.
