Second Item Marked Delivered but Not Received
I’m dealing with a very frustrating situation involving two separate purchases.
I strongly suspect the first purchase was a scam. The item was marked delivered but nowhere to be found.
I visited USPS office twice, and one clerk was able to share partial information on the package. Although the ZIP code matched my location, the seller changed the delivery address from what was on Ebay. The seller also removed my name from the shipment, which has prevented USPS from releasing full delivery details. Based on what I was told, the street direction was changed from west to east, and the street number was also incorrect. The seller has not responded to any of my messages, but did update the shipping information with what appears to be the same details that were already listed. Unfortunately, I had already marked the item as not received, and I have since reported the seller to eBay through both phone and Facebook. Ebay is asking me to wait until Wednesday and ask them to step in.
I also had a second purchase from a different seller that was marked as delivered tonight. I live in an apartment building with a locked mailroom, security cameras, and secured lockers. According to the tracking information, the package was delivered to a parcel locker, but I never received a locker code. This seller is more reputable, so I had higher expectations, but I am unable to locate the package in the mail room. After dealing with the first issue, this has been especially discouraging. At this point, I’m feeling very upset and I am concerned, and I would appreciate any advice on next steps or how others have handled similar situations.

The Fake Tracking Scam

·8 months agoYou will probably be denied a refund. I had the same thing happen to me - the seller did not send to MY address but to some place in my town. Post office sent me an email telling me this. They could not tell me where it was actually sent - but I am sure it was not the product I ordered anyway. It was more than likely an empty box or something cheap that the unsuspecting recipient just tossed wondering where it came from. Since the zip code matched - ebay said item was delivered and closed my case - I appealed and they closed it again. Talked to 3 different people on the phone and they basically admitted it was a scam and fraudulent but washed their hands of it. Will never buy from ebay again.

OP8 months agoCase was concluded against my favor.
Called in for an appeal.
Got the email that refund is on it's way.
The mail I received from Ebay doesn't really make sense.
They claim seller agreed for a refund but failed to initiate it.
Ebay doesn't seem to have taken Post Office receipt into consideration.
Ebay don't seem to consider this is as a SCAM transaction and won't be surprised to see the seller on EBAY.
Totally unfair but after a week of frustration I might be getting my money back.
Thank you all for your help. @house*of*paws @christworks

·8 months agoHi @ctrlaltka
As long as you verify that your name and address were NOT on the package associated with the tracking number you were given … you have sufficient information to obtain a refund … though not necessarily from eBay.
In my experience, the Fraud Department of your credit card company is the best place to call. Just tell the agent that you are the victim of the ‘False (or fake) tracking number scam’ … and answer whatever questions they ask. Then request a chargeback.
BTW, the seller is not necessarily the scammer. It could be a dropshipper … OR their supplier … who is responsible for providing the tracking number. Sometimes the seller is as innocent as the buyer.

OP8 months agoI’m fairly certain this case will not be concluded in my favor, and I plan to submit all of my findings to my bank (PayPal in this case).
I’ve realized how difficult, almost impossible, it is to obtain full and accurate delivery information.
If the USPS employee hadn’t been willing to go out of his way, I would have had no recourse at all.
Phone calls, reports, and missing package claims led nowhere beyond expressions of sympathy, with no meaningful resolution.
Thank you for responding @house*of*paws, I appreciate your help.

For my Item Not Received claim: after visiting the post office for the fourth time, I was finally able to obtain the delivery receipt showing the address where the package was actually delivered to (thank you to the tireless postal worker ðŸ™). I reported this information by phone and on Facebook, neither support seemed inclined to take immediate action.
If NRI case concludes against my favor, I will file an appeal. At least I now have proof that the item was deliberately sent to the wrong address.
I located the second missing package in the mailroom the next day.
Thank you.

·8 months ago@ctrlaltka The first one sounds like the Fake Tracking Scam. You can do a search on these boards, and you will find a ton of threads on it. You already opened an Item Not Received? Am I understanding that correctly? It sounds counterintuitive, but that is the wrong claim to open because the seller only has to show the item was delivered, and eBay will side with them. eBay can only see it was delivered to the correct zip code. eBay is already well aware of this loophole, but they have yet to do anything about it.
You said the seller updated the shipping information. Was this done in the Item Not Received claim you filed, or did they send you a message? If they responded to the INR, then eBay will rule against you if tracking shows it was delivered. If they did not respond to the INR, then after the 3rd business day, you can ask eBay to step in. That would be the best-case scenario because eBay will refund you if the seller has not responded to the INR.
If eBay rules against you, you can open a claim with your credit card or bank, whichever you used to pay for that item. You will want to tell them it is the fake tracking scam. They may want you to get a letter from your local post office that verifies the package was not addressed to you and was not delivered to you. They won't have to give out the address or person it was addressed to, just that it wasn't you. You may also need to submit information about your order and the tracking number off eBay. Your financial institution will be able to tell you what documents they need. If you have to go this route, it will take some time, but you will ultimately win and get a refund. Also, be sure to report that seller to eBay no matter what. They are scum, and they need to be removed from the platform.
Don't borrow trouble on the second item just yet. Does your building have someone who works in the mailroom? If so, talk to that person. Who assigns you the locker code? If you can't track down or do not have a point of contact for mail in your building, you may need to talk to your post office again. I think it is highly unlikely you have been scammed twice. It certainly would be discouraging if you have, but please try not to let it worry you or get too frustrated right now.

OP8 months agoI really appreciate you for taking the time to answer.
Yes, I have filed INR on the first case and seems like since the item is marked delivered there is not much I could do.
The seller updated shipping information on the INR case item, which didn’t change anything on my end but he might have done it in response to INR.
I know this issue will somehow get resolved. But two USPS offices I visited were not willing to release any written information in regards to the case since it doesn’t even look like I was the recipient. I also asked if they could just make a statement that the tracking has nothing to do with me and my address but I was told they couldn’t do that. I plan to try again today.
In sellers reviews there seems to be another person who was a victim of wrong address scam. I also reported him and added my review.
I am hoping second case is simply late mail.
I truly appreciate your response. This case shouldn’t consume me this much. I will stop worrying about it. Thank you again for your help.
