Screwed by EBay & Paypal
I bought a G-Tech G-Speed Shuttle Thunderbolt 3 with the front cover missing for parts or repair. When I received the unit I noticed that the assembly was taken apart and screws were missing as well as the Thunderbolt interface PCB. I contacted the seller the day after I received it and he said he was traveling and would resolve it with me on Monday. Never contacted me. I filed a case with eBay and PayPal. Ebay said it needed to be resolved through PayPal. I was just advised that it was resolved in the sellers favor. This action promotes thieves to do similar actions. It’s like buying a car and when you get it there is no engine. Help me and notify eBay and PayPal you won’t stand for this.

·7 months agoYes, that's why the seller told @mrmuzic they'd resolve it on Monday then didn't, to scam past the deadline.
Instead @mrmuzic should have
-- clicked RETURN THIS ITEM right away (but not file at PayPal as well) to start a return request, then
-- given at most until the case automatically closes at 21 business days for either
1. the seller to offer a resolution or a refund, or
2. click Ask eBay to step in.

·7 months agoIt always goes EBay > PayPal > CC Provider/bank.
Once you skip a step, you can’t go back. You also cannot take two at once. Opening with PayPal and eBay at the same time means eBay bows out. Not sure why PayPal refused but your last chance is to go to the source your PayPal account is funded from.
Ideally, you would just have disregarded your seller’s attempt at stringing you along, filed a SNAD return with eBay, seller would have been forced to send you a return label and to refund (or refund without a return).

Did you file both cases at the same time? As soon as you file with Paypal, that takes eBay out of the picture, you will be dealing with Paypal only.
If you had filed an Item Not As Described case with eBay as soon as you received the item, you may have been able to return the item & get your $$ back. Contacting the seller delayed you filing that case with eBay, probably out of the 3 day window you had.

·7 months agoIs your PayPal account funded by a bank account or a credit card? If it’s a credit card, contact the card issuer. If it’s a bank account, you might have fewer options-see above comment.
When leaving feedback, be cautious with your wording—state “not as described†and mention the missing parts, but avoid personal attacks or the feedback may be removed. Keep it accurate, specific, and unemotional. It’s unfortunate this happened, I'm sorry.

Which is why it might be best to avoid stuff which has the condition "for parts or repair" As a buyer you have no idea what another seller is really selling you. I also believe there is now a 3 day return policy on items with that condition so yes the seller would win the case cause you waited too long. Once you received and noticed that you should have filed the case immediately. You prolonged the situation with the seller. This is a lesson learned. When you say you used Paypal was this direct funds or through credit card? If direct funds then the denial stands. The item is yours.

OP7 months agoIt’s PayPal credit .If that’s the case I won’t use PayPal credit ever again. I have plenty of credit cards and other than this issue there’s no reason for me to ever use PayPal credit again. I don’t know if a credit card will get involved with paying for a purchase with an individual?

·7 months agoI really depends and varies. It’s really the last thing to do is go through payment source. Now in your case because it’s PayPal credit then the item is yours. Yes question the seller before buying. For parts or repair the item may not be working at all. If you expect things to work then buy used items.

OP7 months agoI have bought countless items for “parts or repairâ€. In the future I will question if the unit has been taken apart for harvesting parts. If the seller doesn’t know then I would advise anyone to stay away. Plenty of people selling Items for parts or repair when the item has “stopped working†while they’ve owned it.

If you bought the piece for "parts or repair", presumably it would be a non-working unit. Did the listing specifically state that these missing parts would be included? What did the listing say?

OP7 months agoThe listing said for parts or repair, PERIOD . If someone advertises a car for parts or repair and you get it s d it doesn’t have an engine is that acceptable. If the unit was BONED and listed as such you’re getting a cat in a bag. If it’s listed for parts or repair I take that as being a whole unit that’s not working unless there are pictures showing you different. I’m out $250 !

·7 months agoYes, according to eBay's definition it's absolutely acceptable to sell a car without an engine as "for parts or not working". EBay's definition of the category is as follows:
"The item does not function as intended and is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components."
Your biggest problem here is that you're thinking your view of what "for parts or not working" means should override eBay's stated definition of the term. It doesn't.

Just call the customer service number listed on the back of the card.

·7 months agoI find this hard to believe. Why would ebay tell you to go through PayPal? You can just file INAD and get your money back directly through ebay.
At this point you ought to simply do a chargeback with your CC.
