Scammed on ebay.co.uk
I bought a laptop on ebay.co.uk.seller disappeared had 0 ratings.ebay told me was in a category not covered by moneyback guarantee....i can not do anything because it was deleted and i cant contact ebay by any meaning to tell them that a laptop is a laptop and that category is covered.
I did contacted my bank for a chargeback
Any chance to succeed?

·6 months agoI had somebody do something similar but they just decided not to ship the item at all and it still fell under eBay money back guarantee so me contacting eBay got me to get my money back for it even though they said that it wouldn't be in their system anymore because it was longer than a week so I could do nothing about it

These people are scammers. They list in the wrong category on purpose so that you cannot file an eBay claim. You can get your money back, but it requires contacting eBay via there social media outlets. Regular customer service that you get via call back or chat are outsourced to foreign call centers, and are not allowed to help you.
Since you went to your credit card for a chargeback, make sure they know about this scam because there is a good chance eBay will still respond with the "no buyer protection" nonsense. A few months back there were hundreds of these listings per day posted in an assortment of categories by "newbie" sellers selling items for thousands of dollars each (fake since they would have selling limits), or by dormant obviously hijacked accounts. eBay was "on them for a while" but they are back.
I posted a thread about it, but apparently there was little interest.

A laptop may be a laptop, but if the seller chose to list it in a category other than Computers/Tablets & Networking such as Business and Industrial or Specialty Services, then there was no money back guarantee (MBG) protection.
On a listing page in the upper right you would see:
If the item was covered by the Guarantee. If it was listed in an unprotected category It would have said this item is not protected by the MBG.
FYI, Since you are located in the U.K. you should have posted this topic on that site's community. This is the U.S. site's (eaby.com) community. Fortunately, the policies for this issue are the same, on both sites, but not all are on the two sites. In the future make sure you are logged into the U.K's site (ebay.co.uk) if you need help from the community.

·3 years agoLaptops are covered if listed in the laptop category.
If it was listed in Specialty Services it's not covered because intangible items like a service isn't covered. The listing for the laptop said under Coverage: Not covered by eBay's purchase protection programs. The seller is a scammer who listed it in a category that doesn't offer protection. They have a license to steal when the listing says it's not covered. You should be able to get a refund through the chargeback with your credit card company.
Pay attention to all the information in a listing, especially if it says not covered do not buy.
