Scam or what.
Summary: chasent-0 expressed concerns about a potential scam involving a transaction on eBay where coins were paid for in advance but never received. They shared frustrations over false promises from the seller and eBay's lack of assistance due to the expiration of the claim period. eburtonlab advised checking eBay's presale policy and suggested contacting the credit card issuer for possible recourse. Additional responses recommended filing a claim with the bank, acknowledging that eBay cannot assist beyond the allowed time frame.
Is this some kind of elaborate scam? Ebay claims they are a legitimate seller. I prepaid for coins and my order was 05-14135-17172 back in January. The seller keeps telling me the coins are on backorder. I was suppose to get the coins last month nothing even though they claimed they sent. I contacted the seller two weeks ago and they said I should still wait the coins should come but still nothing. The presale money I paid is gone in the tune of $127.31. Im not sure why ebay allows these kinds of transactions without any recourse for the buyer and possibly allowing a scam reside on their site. Im hoping this is not a scam but feel.I probably should make a claim with my bank. The only thing Im getting from the seller is false promises. I dont understand why I wasnt the first customer for these coins to ship since I paid over 8 months ago.

·1 month agoYes you should file a case with your bank right away. Many only allow six months but others a year.

·1 month agoIf this goes back to January, then most if not all your options have expired. I'd still try my CC however. But absolutely nothing can be done on eBay about your situation at this point.

eBay's US presale policy is here:
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/presale-listings-policy?id=4252
Sellers of presale items are required to provide the exact date the item becomes available in the listing and are also required to ship within 40 business days of the sale. But buyers must know about the policy in order to use the Money Back Guarantee in the time allowed.
On eBay, buyers have up to thirty days from the last estimated delivery date shown at the time of purchase to file a case. After that, eBay can no longer help.

PayPal and many credit cards provide some protection for up to 180 days from the time of purchase. Check with your card issuer to see if you have any options remaining. Once your credit card protection expires your options are limited.

OP1 month agoEbay didnt seem interested since they just pointed out the 30 days elapsed from January. Not even acknowleding it was a presale item and doing nothing. Case has already been opened and closed. Item was suppose to be shipped by August. Its now September.

·1 month agoIf your case has been closed eBay cannot help you after that. Contact your card issuer to see if you have any recourse there.
In the future, never let a seller delay you past the deadline to start a case or to ask eBay to step in. If you have not received an item within thirty days of last estimated delivery (or 40 days in the case of a presale item) start an "item not received" case before the time elapses, then ask eBay to step in if the seller does not provide tracking showing delivery within twenty-one business days after the case has been started.

OP1 month ago · EditedIm glad ebay supports scams if this is one. I filed that claim within 40 days of expected delivery date but was denied. All on record. Like I said ebay is only acknowledging the paid date of January. Nothing was delayed but my coins.

·1 month agoThe "forty days" is the deadline for the seller to deliver the item for a preorder item.
The buyer has thirty days from the last estimated delivery date shown at the time of purchase to file an "item not received" case, and then another twenty-one business days to ask eBay to step in and force the refund if the seller cannot provide tracking that shows delivery.
Contact your card issuer to see what options you have at this point.
