Scam
I bought a copy of McAfee Internet security from an Ebay account called ‘ ‘ on 24th Feb 2023. When the card arrived I followed the instructions and went to McAfee.com/activate . I entered the ‘ unique 25-digit product key ‘. The software would not load and I was redirected to someone to call me back. They did so. It was very obviously a South Asian gentleman on a private telephone line who proceeded to try and get me to go through a digital process with him. I declined, and hung up. I notified the seller () of what had happened and said I was probably going to leave negative feedback. I got this reply:
Yes that is a scam company pretending you have allowed to contact you by going on the wrong site.
I hope you did not give them any access to your machine or any money.
McAfee will NEVER contact you like that and will NEVER ask for any money.
Please reply and let us know you did not give them access to your account and you did not give them the licence key from the box.
We can guide you through how to get this working on your machine but you need to confirm above first.

I believe the seller had dishonest intent and I have not entered into any further correspondence. I have examined the seller’s site and believe everything else on it is rubbish, posted only in order to trick Ebay into thinking this is a regular seller.
I do not know how to block the seller and get ebay to check to make sure neither it's security or mine has been breached.

You and the seller are located in the U.K. but you have posted your issue on the U.S. based site (ebay.com) You may get better advice on how to go about getting a refund if you post your topic on the U.K. site's community https://community.ebay.co.uk/
The price that item was selling for should have been a warning, at about 30% of trending prices.

·3 years agoThere's no way to block the seller and there's no way Ebay can check the security on your system.
What you can do is use the MBG and get your money back.
Go to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

Unfortunately, that was one of those listings that state "Not eligible for eBay purchase protection programs". eBay does not allow claims. There is no MBG.

It depends on the CATEGORY. I don't know about this one in particular since it was listed on eBay UK. However, eBay will be quick to deny any buyer that purchases an actual PRODUCT that is miscategorized in order to avoid buyer protection.
One can always find great bargains on eBay for all highly sought items listed (laptops, cameras, GPUs, golf clubs, watches, bikes, designer goods, etc.) in such categories as websites for sale, businesses for sale, insurance and warranty, travel, etc. Of course, they are fraudulent listings, but eBay has an "out" when the duped buyer tries to file a claim. CS is in the denial business on this issue as well.
There was a buyer the other day that was a victim of this activity, that purchased an actual PRODUCT, and was denied by eBay due to the 'no buyer protection category' issue. The the buyer then went to PayPal, and was denied due to the same reason..."from a category that has no buyer protection."

I haven't heard anything about them kicking software out of the MBG?
