Report False Advertising
Hi. I recently came across a listing for a 16gb MacBook Air and upon closer inspection (seller showed the actual specs in pictures), realized that it was 8gb. I didn’t buy the item and instead tried to report the listing. I do not remember what category I used when reporting but wrote in comments the whole thing. A day later, I got a response saying eBay had found NOTHING WRONG with the listing.
How can I do this better in the future?

You state that "upon closer inspection" you discovered it was 8gb. EBay has nearly 2 billion listings on any given day. If only 1% of them are reported that's 20 million listings. Do you honestly think eBay has the resources to closely inspect 20 million listings?
What eBay does have is a Money Back Guarantee. If you, or any buyer, purchased the item and discovered it was not as described in the listing opening an MBG case would allow you to return the item, at the seller's expense, and get a full refund. And eBay monitors those cases and will penalize sellers for them.

Yes, I had made a mistake and I corrected my error.
I was very grateful to have someone take a moment to let me know. I always sent a thank you message.

·1 year agoOften, a discrepancy like this is just simple seller error. You might want to write to that seller and tell him about his mistake. That doesn’t always work – seller might not believe what you are telling him, he might not care.
I had something similar When I was looking for Pink Floyd. Wish you were here on vinyl. Seller had listed a first edition UK version, but it was clear that it was absolutely not first edition. I put it out to the seller Dash, who was very confused. I pointed out that the first issue did not come with the barcode, But he still seems unsure. Still has the item listed.
The best lesson for the seller would be for someone to buy it, then return it because it was not as described. You could be that buyer if you want – totally up to you.

Even if AI were not used in the Report Item system the single report would not get any action, unless the seller were violating one of ebay's listing policies about inappropriate payments.
Beyond that, if the seller has other computers listed, they may have made a mistake in their listing. posting the 16gb instead of 8gb. Did you think about contacting them about the discrepancy? If not try doing that.

When you use the "report this item" feature on a listing now, it is directed to a bot with an auto-responder with the message you received saying essentially nothing is wrong with the listing. eBay said that if a listing to a lot of reports, they would have a human look. That is about all you can do.
