Refund Not Being Returned after Filing Request
I bought an item from a seller in November of this year. I decided I wanted to return it and went through the process of getting my return shipping label. The problem is that I requested return and refund BEFORE I ever received the item. There was a lengthy delay in receiving the item (which I still haven't received) and contacted the seller about this problem.
He replied, telling me he sent the item to me on Dec.4 and that he saw it was still in transit. He promised that he would send my refund as soon as I (finally) received the item. Today is Dec. 26 and I STILL have not received the item he says was mailed out on Dec. 4. ebay is now saying my request will be dismissed if they don't hear from me BY TODAY. All they tell me is to contact the seller and then to contact THEM if I don't get a satisfactory response.
I have tried every single way to get through to ebay, including sending an email to an 'Agent', who did not respond. I need to have the return date extended because I believe the seller has been deliberately 'holding' the item while waiting for the timeframe to end.
Is there any way I can contact ebay and speak with an actual person about this?

In the future, open an "Item Not Received" claim. The seller will HAVE to address the issue and upload tracking.
It's a waiting game now. BUT the ball is in the seller's court. Ebay MAY refund you on their own, without taking money away from the seller, but it's really up to them, based on tracking

·2 years agoAs you've learned the hard way you should never open a return for something you don't yet have. Ebay is not going to be able to help you if your case here times out. And you can't open an item not received case after opening a return.
Your best bet now is to open an item not received case with Paypal, if that's how you paid. If not, dispute the charge with your credit card.

Yes, that sounds like a problem, and requesting to return something you didn't get is likely complicating matters since the whole process is automated. Is there in your "purchase history" for this item tracking that shows "delivered" by chance? Logically speaking, you can't return something you didn't get, and it sounds like if you don't respond to the incorrect case you filed, it will expire.
Go look to see if there is a recorded "delivery" for this item, even if you got nothing.

OP2 years agoHey, thank you very much for the info about checking the "purchase history," and I checked. Instead, it was now listed as "return escalated," but this was updated after I finally got in touch with a real person who apparently changed my status, that I just now noticed.
I also got an answer from the seller, who reiterated that he had again checked the status and it now says "on the way," which I checked was true. Seller was trying to reassure me that he had indeed mailed the item and that he contacted USPS to get verification, so that made me feel better.
But I do appreciate your attempt at helping me, and it's nice to know someone out there cared enough to make the suggestion. Have a great day, and I hope your holidays are going well.
