Reconfirm before bidding?
Why did I have to reconfirm my payment and shipping in the last 30 seconds of an auction??? It cost me an item I spent alot of time bidding on. It makes no sense. I have a verified account. I always pay after winning. There should be no reason. That was a one of a kind item. I am absolutely disgusted at this.

·2 years agoIn future leave a final bid with ebay giving you sufficient time to deal with some issue that could manifest itself seconds before an item closes.

OP2 years agoI could have set a higher max bid to begin with, yes, but what's the fun in eBay if I can't decide to increase it 20 seconds before the auction ends? Sniped auctions is where alot of sellers make good money.

·2 years agoManny have stated missing the old ebay, before the changes of recent years & have already found fun to be gone.
Adapt & accept what you don't have the ability to change

Not that it's ever done so with any other bad policy change.

The DSRs stopped being used within a few months when sellers angrily pointed out that eBay was telling buyers that four stars was a normal transaction but penalizing sellers who got less than a five star rating.
The DSRs still appear, but are not used to assess member accounts any more.

·2 years agoThe stupid new autopay requirement plays havoc with sniping.
And most auctioneers love snipes which raise prices.
I suspect the requirement to affirm or reconfirm also means that electronic sniping, which is used by the savvy long time snipers, is also blocked since those buyers are not around when the auction ends.

·1 year agoIt just happened to me and I missed out on an item I was pretty confident of winning with a last minute bid so am really ###### off about it! - no warning and been an ebay member for many years. disgusted is an understatement as there has been NO notification about this happening when placing last minute bids and of course my account is verified with payment set up too so no reason for it other than to remove the control of when to pay. I always pay after bidding as quickly as possible but I am not handing control over my finances to another body so guess that will be it for me bidding and winning any more.

Because eBay chose that time to force your Buyer ID into their new program to put up a payment source in order to proceed to bid. From this day forward, any time you want to make a bid, AND the seller retains the preferences on their account that were placed by eBay with a default set to YES, this is going to happen.
It is going to limit the payment options you have, and remove the function that allows combined shipping for a reduced cost should you win multiple auctions from the same seller.
All Buyer IDs are forced now to provide a payment source in order to make an offer. eBay is now working on forcing all buyer IDs to do the same in order to proceed to bid. It is eBay's answer to the supposed non-payer issue that monetizes the problem in lieu of sanctioning those buyers who win and run. It costs everyone more, discourages buyers that DO pay, and eBay makes more money.
Many sellers do not realize what is going on, do not know those preferences are there, and wonder why nobody is making offers anymore or bidding is indeed at an all time low. Maybe eBay figures those same sellers will PAY to promote their listings instead since they are losing PAYING buyers as well with the blocks in place.

Didn't you have to confirm your payment each time you bid? If you did, then you should have expected it to popup again when you placed your last bid.
The reason for the payment method confirmation is because of ebay's auto pay which will pay the seller immediately should you win. If you didn't have to confirm earlier, it was because of the amount of time left in the auction. You could have entered a bid with a minute left filled in the confirmation, and not hit the Confirm bid button until you were ready.
The seller may not realize that ebay opted them into the auto pay system, they did that to all sellers and many experienced ones still do not know that has happened.

Bidding many times on an auction is not a good way to win them, since you are always reacting to other bids. You should only place one bid as close to the end of an auction as you can or dare, for the most you are willing to pay for the item and its shipping cost, that is what is known as Automatic Bidding. Often you may win an auction for less than your maximum bid price. Placing an automatic bid in the last seconds, is what we call Sniping and it takes some practice or the use of a bidding service.

Do keep in mind that an early automatic bid will beat a last second bidder's one if it is more than their bid. Still the later you place it, the less time others have to react to it.

OP2 years agoI've placed last second bids many times with that seller and never had that issue. It seems it's something new eBay has done. It's really causing problems with combining invoices. Small items such as electronics, coins, ect. Would not be worthwhile purchases without combined shipping. I'm having to explain to one seller right now, that it is on their end. They're nice enough to keep refunding the shipping on multiple auctions, but it's not the best way.
