Rate this item
As it is now impossible to easily reach a sentient being at eBay, I'll float this here... A "Rate this item" 1-5 stars was added to the Feedback page-- for the past week, I have been unable to supply feedback without checking a star. Often, it is difficult to rate things that can only be evaluated with use; the only time this is possible in a timely manner is if the buyer is already familiar with the item. If the requirement for this additional attempt to gather data is not removed, I will either check "3" every time, or stop supplying feedback altogether. Thanks.

·2 years agoHi, you still have an opportunity to express your thanks to a seller for a positive buying experience by use of ebay messages, & not leave transaction feedback to avoid ebay's required rate this product
Hope this will be of some help

·2 years agoThat's incorrect in my experience. I have several outstanding seller feedbacks I would like to submit - all of them REQUIRE a product rating. The Leave Feedback button is not active until a star is selected. So they just sit.

·2 years agoExactly , you avoid ebay's requirement to rate the product by not leaving feedback
Ebay can't force you to rate the product.

I haven't tested this myself, because I haven't had the opportunity: I've read that if you click the "Leave Feedback" link at the bottom of your feedback profile, a page opens with all your items that you can leave feedback for. Leaving feedback from that page doesn't require checking off a product review.

·2 years agoUnfortunately @gosimus , eBay redesigned the feedback forum page so it's no longer an option for getting past a required product review star rating.

Unfortunately eBay updated that "leave feedback" page at the end of June, and that workaround now no longer works. New items linked to the catalog now require an "item rating" in order to leave feedback on either page.

"Leaving 3 star product reviews can be harmful to sellers. Leaving no FB is a better option than leaving a less than ideal star rating when you don't have a true product review to offer".
The Star (detailed seller ratings) do not hurt sellers at all if a 3 is left. They stopped being used to actually rate sellers in I believe 2014 or 15. for not being a true 5 star rating system. Sellers who received all 4 stars were kicked off the site, for having less than a 4.6 over all rating. Beyond that sellers cannot be held responsible for manufacturer's issues. ebay should have removed them completely years ago.

·2 years agoNobody is talking about DSRs. They are talking about the product review star rating. It is harmful to sellers when a product gets a bad rating. It hurts future sales for all sellers of that product.

A lot of us dislike this change. I stopped leaving FB on my purchases when I can't get past the required product review.
There used to be a link on the FB page to "tell us what you think" and I was going to suggest submitting your comments through that link. But I can no longer find that link. Do you know what happened to it @eburtonlab or @kyle@ebay ?

·2 years agoTell eBay exactly what you think of the new feedback system.
Go to your own feedback page and use the comment button in the lower right, or try this link:
Tell us what you think about the Feedback System on eBay.
After answering a couple of questions you should have the chance to add a comment of up to 500 characters.

·2 years agoThanks a lot @eburtonlab . I was looking on the feedback forum (there used to be a link there) not on my own feedback page. 🙃
kyle@ebay
Hey @wastingtime101 I have reported this to the proper team for review, and I'll be sure to update you on this once I hear back!

·2 years agoThank you @kyle@ebay - appreciate it. As eburtonlab pointed out above, the link does still exist on our personal FB pages, but it's not present on the feedback forum https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/leave_feedback or on the pop-up windows when you click pos/neut/neg on the feedback forum.

Hey @wastingtime101 and @eburtonlab I just got word back on this. I don't have a timeline on it, but they did state "we are aware of this on working on it".

Has anyone ever been given a reason why the leaving a product review portion is mandatory in order to leave feedback for a seller? Sorry, if I missed it someplace.

·2 years agoSeems that it has been stated (not by eBay) that it is likely an attempt to be like the other guys with all the "product reviews".
From some posts, it doesn't sound like it is working as hoped..

I do remember when it was announced.....some cheery person or some such talking about a new exciting addition to feedback coming our way. Of course, during that time (or ever since that I can tell) they never said it was going to be required in order to rate the transaction. I am going to look for a recent post that shows different screenshots that are displayed as well during the feedback "experience" when a product review is enabled. The part where you put in the comments to rate a transaction that are populated to the feedback page of the seller is titled TELL US WHAT YOU LOVE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT....... You fill that in with "the movie really was stupid" it is going to show up on the seller's feedback rating. Maybe they are going to get rid of those seller ratings anyway, or eBay should file SNAD on the company they use to program this new "journey". "Seller did not ship" type comments will be no more LOLOL.
Maybe it makes sense to eBay, and that is all that counts. I was just curious as to why it is required at this point. It seemingly annoys people who want to leave good feedback for their sellers.

Here is the thread I was 'remembering' in my previous post to you. There are plenty of screenshots throughout and a recap of when this was announced in a recap of podcast or something.

OP2 years agoYes, wastingtime101, there used to be a link to tell eBay directly what we thought of changes-- but not anymore!
