Question regarding tariff buying CCG from Canadian seller
I live in the states and recently purchased card from a Canadian seller (ship from CA). I was told that there may be a tariff that I will have to pay prior to delivery for 25% of the item value. Just for context, the card is around 1500. The carrier would be FedEx. I did some research online and I got conflicting answers.
Is this true? and does anyone has experience with it?
Thank you very much.

·8 months agoI think the CCG will have hefty tariff. Playing cards refers to a deck of cards, spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs, not pokemon and other role playing cards. But the biggest problem is no one really knows until you are hit with it as so there are so many other moving parts that come into play

Then we will know for sure.

·8 months agoIt depends how much the seller declares as a value when sending.
If seller put it as a gift...I believe there is no tariff.

·8 months ago... unless a customs agent inspects the package, and realizes that it was actually commercial goods, rather than a gift.
A stamp seller from Europe, who sends his items to the USA as letter mail rather than packages, reported about a week ago that his items were being delayed by 10 weeks or more at the customs office. That probably indicates that mail like that is being scrutinized more closely now.

If seller gets caught filing a false declaration ... I believe he goes to jail

·8 months agoAh, it's been a hot minute since someone asked me to write "gift" on a customs form. Thank goodness for EIS.

·8 months agoHere is a link to the ebay tariff info: https://pages.ebay.com/tariffs/
If its via Fedex, you will most likely receive an email from Fedex to pay the tariff plus a processing fee that Fedex will charge as well.

OP8 months agoYes i checked the tariff page but I also saw the followings exception.
HTS code for trading cards
9504.40 (Playing cards) → Duty: FREE (0%)
Or 4911 (Printed matter) → 0–0.2%
So according to this, TCG is supposed to be 0% tariff but I want to make sure.

·8 months agoNobody here can tell you for sure because we don't know what HTS code the seller put on the customs form.
If there's a tariff, know FedEx's brokerage fee will be hefty so it's not just the tariff you'd need to worry about.
This is a wait and see situation - package will make it to customs soon enough and you'll have more info once it's processed.
As mentioned, it's illegal to declare goods a "gift" on customs form. eBay has avenues for sellers to report buyers specifically for requesting to violate those laws and sellers often do report buyers for this.
