Purchase Issue with Missing Item and Invalid Tracking
I purchased a used Canon R5MKII on August 27, 2025. After not hearing from the seller for a few days, I reached out and was told they were out of town but would ship the item over the weekend of the 31st.
After following up again, I received a FedEx tracking number but it never showed any indication that the package was handed over to FedEx.
Shortly afterward, I noticed that the seller’s profile had been removed, and the auction listing was no longer available. Then, a few days ago, I received a suspicious email from UPS stating that a package had been delivered the day after it was shipped from within my own state despite the seller’s account being based in a different state.
I never received the item, and I am now out $3,500. To make matters worse, one of the messages I received from the seller—sent after the alleged delivery date stated that they would ship the item soon, contradicting the tracking information.
I’ve been unable to locate an option on eBay to file a claim, possibly due to the presence of a "delivered" tracking number, even though it appears to be fake or unrelated.
Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
Any advise on how to move forward would be greatly appreciated.

In the following thread in message #2 a link is provided (in the upper part of the message) to an older thread where you will find your options when you are a victim of this scam. The options will be listed (a through d) in the 'accepted answer' post.
This was posted to one of yesterday's victims. I think there were two or three with a similar scenario.

Understand that you have to get "Item Not Received" (INR) out of your mind and start thinking FRAUD/Fake Tracking scam instead, regardless of what option you choose. Some choices are more expedient than others. You will not find a policy and/or procedure published in any eBay help files to aid victims of this fraud . After over a decade eBay's main response is to apparently DENY and hope you go away. You don't have to do that.
Come back if you have any questions about any of the choices. And please return and let us know how it worked out for you.

OP11 months agopart of your message looks to be cut off. I never signed for the package and there is no delivery photo either. Could you send your response again so I can hopefully see the whole thing. Not sure why it's only showing part of it.

·11 months agoYou have 3 strategies @jbholsters8lim to get your $3,500 refunded.
1. Click Return this item on your Purchases or Order Details page at eBay, to start a return request for Missing Parts or Pieces, type 2 lines of comments, upload a photo of the UPS weight and dimensions, and Submit Request. Don't respond if the seller contacts you, nor try to talk to eBay. After 3 business days come back to Ask eBay to step in. If you get a prepaid return label, send that back with the UPS printed out, to get your refund.
2. If there is no signature on the unrelated UPS tracking (which was provided to falsify your delivery) either file an Item Not Received dispute with eBay (which you say you can't find) or with PayPal here because a signature is required for transactions totaling $750 or more at both eBay and PayPal.
3. If that fails or instead, file a chargeback with your card issuer for a fake tracking scam. Your card issuer will either review that weight and dimensions on the UPS tracking, or call UPS to verify that it's not your address on the delivered package, to issue your refund.
