The price of items on eBay are getting ridiculous. How is it alright for a person to try and sell a product that is broken and I guess if people don’t have any better knowledge of if a product is broken and they pay that extremely high price it their money. But the price is still outrageous and I mean it is out of control. If you have no say in what people charge I guess I an ask $100
for a 2020 penny discount $30 shipping is that okay?

No one employed by eBay actually sees and evaluates any item that's sold here.

You almost answered that question yourself in the next sentence. Many items are listed on ebay by sellers who do not know if an item is damaged, working or missing parts / accessories. Sometimes those sellers will add Not Tested to their description.
One way to find out if a seller may not know what they are selling, how it works or what accessories it should have, is to check their feedback profile to see if they have experience selling that product or similar ones. You might want to avoid buying from a seller for example, whose feedback shows they have sold only household goods or fashions, but have listed a Machine shop tool, An expensive Camera or piece of Stereo equipment.
As for pricing, others have already answered that question.

·5 months agoIf a product is broken the seller should clearly state that and it should be listed under the condition "For Parts/Not Working." With a couple exceptions that are category dependent, items listed as "used" are expected to be fully fuctional. If you see a listing where an item is being sold as "used" but is clearly not functional or where the seller is stating the item has not been tested or is being sold "AS-IS," report the listing. Again, to be clear, this applies to items being sold under "used" or perhaps the "new" conditions if a seller is dumb enough to do that.
You also must remember eBay have a the best MBG for buyers that you will find on any reselling platform. Buyers play a role, too. They must educate themselves. eBay does not hide the protections they have for buyers. Every listing has a badge that references eBay MBG and a link that explains it. If a buyer does not bother to read it and there is problem, don't you think at some point the burden shifts to the buyer? It amazes me how many buyers post here about problems getting an order or getting their money back many months later after being given the run-around by the seller.

·5 months agoIf you feel prices are ridiculous then do not buy. Everything has gone up in this world. Prices are also determined based of fees as well. Whenever I price an item I take Ebay fees into calculations. If a seller is overpriced then the item will not sell.

It's called a free market economy, which is defined as "an economic system based on voluntary exchange and supply and demand, with minimal to no government intervention. Resources are privately owned, and prices are determined by competition." The brand of capitalism under which the US operates is a free market economy. So I'm unclear why you would think eBay would be exempt from the market principles that guide every other area of US commerce?
And no, you have no say in what people charge, just as no one would have any say in what you charge.

·5 months agoThis is how a free market works. Whether you love capitalism or hate it, it's the cornerstone of an incredibly important concept.
With a free market, it is up to the seller to decide the price. If a seller lists something at an asinine price, it will go unsold, and they will have wasted their own time (and fees). Ebay does not play the role of nanny or dictator, it's up to sellers to determine what's a good price. As a buyer, you are free to buy wherever you want. If you are upset at the overpriced sellers, don't buy from them. No one is stopping you from spending less.
What is your preferred alternative? For ebay to micromanage how much we're allowed to sell every single item for? That seems incredibly unnecessary, when the existing system works just fine for sellers and buyers to find an equilibrium.

In fact, you can ask $13,593 with $800 shipping. If there's a buyer that wants it for that, then you will have a sale.

·5 months agoSellers can list their offerings at any price they choose.
So, as an eBay seller, YOU are free to list your items at any ridiculous price you decide on.
Buyers are free to decide the price is too high and just move on.
