Placed Order With Ebay Seller - Now Order is in Limbo Due to Paypal "Authorization"
I cannot seem to find an answer to this. I placed on order on 12/7/24 with an ebay seller and I used Paypal in 4 to make the payment. I added a new valid credit card to my Paypal wallet and noticed the transaction was not completed. I see that the payment is stuck while Paypal is "authorizing" the card - perfectly valid card with plenty of balance to cover the payment. Meanwhile it appears that the Ebay order is simply not there - no evidence of it at all. I tried to contact the seller but no reply (it is the weekend maybe why).
So, meanwhile can the items I tried to purchase still be purchased by another buyer? And if/when Paypal gets around to authorizing the purchase (they say authorizing can take days to weeks?!) will the order then go to the buyer for fulfillment? Since the transaction is Pending on my credit card - those funds are now tied up and I am unable to use them. I've used PP in 4 dozens of times and never encountered this issue. If I had known this would happen and that I am possibly going to lose out on the items I want I would have used another payment method.
Thanks for your help.

·1 year agoPay Pal Credit in 4 has to be approved by the buyer through a text.
I use Pay Pal Credit all the time giving my email and then get a text number to OK the transaction.
Thus, not doing this the item was not sold or on hold.

Sometimes the transaction has to be OK by the buyer through a text or phone call for it to go through.

OP1 year agoHi - no, not large enough for that scenario. I've done dozens of transactions using PP in 4 with no problem - I am wondering if this is a tie-up due to it being the weekend and/or very busy shopping season with billions of transactions going on. The seller has never responded to any messages I've sent them as I have bought from, and tried to contact them in the past also - frustrating, but they are a good seller as far as product, shipping, etc.

We have no way of knowing whether the item still can be purchased by someone else.
Did you try contacting PayPal to see whether you can use another payment source in your PP Wallet to pay for the purchase? It seems like the sticking point is in PayPal … and not eBay.

OP1 year agoNot yet - thank you for the suggestion - I usually save contacting paypal (or ebay) directly as the last resort. 😉 I think either letting it run its course and hoping I still get the order or contacting paypal are my only options at this point.
Thank you.
