PAYPAL CREDIT NOT AN OPTION ON OFFERS/BIDS
I know this subject has been broached before but I feel the need to bring it up again. I have tried numerous times to make an offer on something using my Paypal Credit and the system won't let you do it. The last time I attempted to make an offer on something I was hoping this situation had been rectified. To my dismay it hasn't. I contacted the seller asking them if they could find a workaround for me to use Paypal Credit such as changing the terms on their end. They either didn't understand what I wanted or just didn't want to participate. Their only answer was they accepted offers. I do realize that some sellers are now requiring up front payment for items and I understand that. But for those of us who use Paypal Credit it's a disadvantage for us. I wonder how many sellers are losing business because of this. I left a message with Ebay expressing my disappointment over this. I don't know if the problem is on Ebay's end or Paypal's. I just wish it could be fixed. Not very user friendly anymore.

·11 months agoI ran into this a couple of times - paypal credit is not a choice and I always get stuck at "to continue, add a card". And I do not continue.

·11 months agoI used to buy quite bit on Ebay. When the Paypal Credit option disappeared I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Ebay and Paypal only to discover that it wasn't a temporary problem or some error. Ever since this changed and Paypal Credit can no longer be used for offers I just don't buy significant items on Ebay unless I decide to "Buy it now". Every six months or so I come back and try to make an offer on an item and discover that Paypal Credit is still not an option. I usually decide that I don't need to make any purchases and leave for another six months or so.
If Ebay doesn't want to fix this then they have spoken loud and clear: they don't want my business.
See you in another six months ... or maybe a year.

·1 year agoJust went through this yesterday! I've been a buyer/seller on eBay and it has never been more difficult to transact! It forced me to use standard PayPal not PayPal Credit! It's costing sellers and buyers opportunities ...

·1 year agoPayPal credit (for items you wish to make an offer on) seems to work only if the seller sends you a counteroffer and you, the buyer, accepts it. Otherwise, if the seller accepts your initial offer, your stuck paying with the form of payment (and PayPal credit is not a option) that you listed on that offer and the seller gets paid automatically .

Rest assured that if you are required to put up a payment source in order to bid on an auction or make an offer, PayPal credit will not be an option for you. Either will GooglePay, ApplePay, spendable funds, gift cards, PayPal Pay in 4, and others. eBay wants a payment source they can hit for their auto-pay program. Sellers, can turn that off, but most don't even know that they have those settings on their account that require the upfront payment source. They don't know what they do. They do not realize why they no longer get offers or bidding on their listings is less than robust if they get bids at all.
Of course, the same sellers will "pay to promote" thinking it will help. eBay likes that.
Yes, a seller can respond to a message and send you an offer. Or if they send you an offer outright, you can choose the payment option of your choice. However, since both of the above options now require individual payments at full shipping price, you lose out on the opportunity to have a combined order at a reduced shipping cost. PayPal credit may still not be an option for you for smaller individual sales. That will be up to PayPal if it is offered to you.

·1 year agoI’ll usually send offers through messages and explain to the seller if they can send me the offer themselves so i can pay with PPC or Pay in 4. They’ve been understanding and cool about it so far.

·1 year agoThe requirement to provide a payment method requires it be a payment method like a credit card which supports an authorization hold. A reasonable requirement.
PayPal credit and other loan programs do not meet that requirement.
The use of PayPal on Ebay is an extra middle man and no longer necessary for most transactions. Ebay does not special case any new features for PayPal since they no longer own it, and it is unnecessary.
Many of us continue to use PayPal for an ever decreasing number of functions, often for reasons which are more likely to be resistance to change than any stronger reason.

·1 year agoInt'l buyers use Paypal because it is the only way to choose the option for their bank to calculate the exchange rate. Bank exchange rates are always less than ebay and ebays checkout does not have that option.

·1 year agoI have Pay Pal Credit and a 3 other credit cards on file.
Pay Pal credit is for making a payment...
Might want to add a debit or credit card on file.
When you win the auction you can change it to pay with 'Pay Pal' credit.
When you change it to Pay Pal credit it will send a code to your email or text to you to use Pay Pal credit for the payment. A little complicated but it does work.

·1 year agoSounds good in theory, doesn't consistently work in real life. I finally broke down and bid on an auction (first time since this folderol was introduced). The item was inexpensive and I wanted to see if this new 'change the funding source after' really worked. The auction ended, and my card was charged. There was no opportunity to switch the payment method offered.

When a seller requires that you put up a payment source in order to make an offer or bid, you are correct that Paypal Credit will not be an option that you can use. Neither is PayPal Pay in 4, Apple Pay, Google Pay, many gift cards, spendable funds, etc. etc. Not only that, but combing items for ONE shipping price will not be allowed. For example, should a seller accepts TEN of your offers, your c.card will be billed ten separate times at full shipping price for each. The seller will be paying TEN .40 cent transaction fees ($4.00) instead of just 40 cents for a combined order.
The seller can turn these requirements off. After over a year, many sellers still do not even know the requirements even exist, much less what they do. Even though you don't sell on this ID, they are already set to the default of YES in case you ever decide to sell here.

Keep in mind, some sellers are not interested in combining multiple items for one shipping cost. They are more interested in getting paid faster, even if it at the expense of GETTING PAID LESS. They think this whole idea is wonderful. eBay does NOT tell them how many PAYING BUYERS simply backed out when they saw the payment source requirement in order to proceed.

Is PayPal Credit your ONLY payment method … or just the one you prefer to use?
It does appear that PPC cannot be used where prepayment information is required before making an offer or placing a bid.
I’ve been under the impression that it was PayPal that decided which listings could be paid for by PP Credit … at least when PayPal was processing payments for eBay.

Paypal Credit is my PREFERRED method of payment which doesn't leave me completely out of the loop. So the decision rests with me.
