Paid Purchase on Second Chance offer was cancelled by seller.
Summary: chphan shared an experience where they received a second chance offer after initially losing an auction to a bidder with no feedback. They purchased the item but were informed shortly after that it was already sold to someone else. They questioned how they were able to make the purchase if it was sold, suspecting either a system glitch or another reason. mkaczorsee suggested it might be a glitch, while albertabrightalberta noted that sellers send second chance offers deliberately. chphan confirmed they received a refund, although they expressed disappointment over the experience.
So... I'm a little confused on how this is possible.
So I was sent notice on a second chance offer. (not to my surprised really). I knew it was going to bounce back as the original listing had me as the second highest bidder and the highest/winning bid had a buyer with 0 feedback. I was the highest bidder on two of sellers items when both items was lost at the last minute to the same 0 feedback buyer so I kind of new something was up a week ago.
Anyways so second chance offer came in and the item where I lost the original listing. Apparantly the 0 feedback bidder didn't go through with payment. Geez what a surprise. So I made the purchase on the listing and confirm the purchase and sent payment. 10mins later seller says it was already sold to someone else 10mins earlier than me. if it was sold to someone else earlier than me than how am I able to make the purchase on the listing than? Can multiple people make purchases on same listing with second chance offer??? Or did the other buyer offer seller more money so he decided to cancel my purchase???....
I'm asking because I don't want to jump to conclusion before I leave a bad feedback as a buyer. It's a legit question I ask seller. If he sold item to another buyer 10mins before me then how am I able to purchase the item.

A seller can send multiple second chance offers to the non winning bidders if they do not get paid by the winning bidder. The first one to accept and pay gets the item, and the other offers should automatically close. Either you spent time reviewing the offer before paying or there's a glitch in ebay's system that didn't end the other offers. The seller would have to choose out of stock as the reason for cancelling and unfortunately they may get a defect on their account because of that.

·1 month agoI disagree that it's a glitch.
For SCOs (second chance offers), the seller has to proactively send them.
When the seller canceled, did he choose the "out of stock" reason for the cancellation?

OP1 month agoI got a refund. And yeah he chose the out of stock reason for cancellation. Kind of a bit miffed. On one hand it saves me a bit of money. But on the other hand I did want it too even if the whole experience from the original listing seems fishy.
