order cancelation
I'm an avid ebayer, I buy items and I sell items on eBay so I kind of know my way around. I had a horrible experience with a seller, we will call seller A. I sent in an offer; I didn't hear back from seller A, So, I moved on to make a purchase from another eBay vendor we will call seller B. Well, seller A accepted my offer and now I have two identical items shipping out. I contacted seller A literally 24 hrs. around the clock. Seller A finally responds and states log in and generate a cancellation request, really? I just contacted you throughout a 24-hour period requesting a cancellation of the item with an apology and your advice is generate a cancellation request that doesn't exists! a buyer can not generate a cancellation request because it doesn't exist. A buyer can only contact the seller and request through the seller to cancel the order. Thats It.
Why was my frustration through the roof? well you cannot contact eBay? no matter what direction you take, the automated system guides you back to the meaningless options available. so eBay resolution causes more frustration than need be.
eBay is of NO HELP! (when resolving issues - you are on your own) and I feel like closing my account and not bothering with it. Amazon is more flexible, and you can quickly communicate with someone should you need to! I'm very disappointed and I feel like contacting the Better Business Bureau. It will at the very least NOT make me feel invisible!

·3 years agoI had to cancel an order a buyer made the other day. Buyer made a mistake. That refund comes out of my "available funds" going through from past buyers.
Your purchase is still pending for a number of days. As such, seller will lose any money coming in to refund you first. Maybe the seller needs the funds coming in to pay for shipping for past purchases.
You made a mistake. Think of it as a good learning experience.
And give sellers some time to respond to your emails.

·3 years agoYes, there IS an 'official' 'cancellation' but it has to be done within 60 minutes of the sale.
Sellers are notified about orders via email, but NOT messages so messages may not be seen until the next working day.
So, overall- It's no better at Amazon- they have the same 'customer service' (none).
The BBB? Might as well turn them in to the neighborhood brick wall too because that is a 'have no teeth-do nothing-does nothing-accomplishes nothing' entity.

"I sent in an offer; I didn't hear back from seller A, So, I moved on to make a purchase from another eBay vendor we will call seller B."
How long did you wait to hear back from seller A to respond to your offer? Sellers are given 48 hours to accept/decline/counter offer, and you have to wait until then, before moving on to another seller. That is especially true if you had to enter a payment method when you made the offer.
Not every seller, even some high volume ones can reply to offers 24/7 after all.

OP3 years agoI should have waited, but in my anxiousness I forgot that I had placed an offer with a payment method attached.
I waited the 1st 24 hrs than forgot about it.
Until my account was charged.
I experienced this as a seller so I knew what had to take place. Once a buyer requested a cancelation it's up to the seller. The cancelation takes seconds.
My frustration escalated when the seller jestured that I should generate a cancelation request (as a buyer) when that option doesn't exit and I would expect more from a seller with over 11 k in sales.
Contacting eBay is an additional headache.
I appreciate the input.

You needed to wait for the first offer to expire before purchasing another item.
Since it sounds like Seller A is not willing to cancel the transaction, there is nothing else you can do.
When you receive the items, you can try to file a Return Request. You may have to pay the return shipping cost,

OP3 years agoI definitely agree, in my anxiousness I overlooked that I had placed an offer on an item.
Seller A did eventually canceled the order after I sent them a snap shot of their responsibility to accept or deny my request per ebay resolution, in addition, I stated that my feed back would reflect my flustered experience with them. I requested a cancelation 10 times within 24 hrs.
However, I take responsibility for my part because I'm an experienced ebayer, who overlooked to remember that I placed a bid on there auction. I've had this experience take place as a seller first so I knew what had to take place. Lesson learned.
Thx

·3 years agoJust a gentle FYI >> Sellers are not required to respond to messages or requests to cancel.
10 times in 24 hours seems a bit excessive, IMO.

That is feedback extortion. If reported, it would cause a policy violation to your account and any feedback you left to be removed.
And 10 times in 24 hours is definitely excessive…
