No refund. No item. Negative feedback was erased. Ebay won't help
So I bought a gamepass code from a sketchy seller on ebay. After waiting a day I bought elsewhere and told him to just send a refund if he isn't going to send the code. After nearly 3 days of no response and no code I got frustrated and left negative feedback. He sent one message complaining about his feedback then went back to ignoring me so I have no code and no refund. I opened a case weeks later and found out it's not covered by ebay's money back guarantee which apparently means all they can do is ask the seller to respond but he doesn't have to give a refund or the item. Today I checked his profile to find that my negative feedback was removed for some reason. So I have no code no refund and can't even leave negative feedback to warn others that this guy is a bumb. This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. It looks like the only way to get my money back is to buy his other items and ask him to refund all of it or receive negative feedback but he seems to have found a way to get rid of negative feedback somehow?????????? Apparently you can sell dlc codes on ebay, never deliver them and never give a refund and get rid of your negative feedback. I'm just baffled by this. What should I do?? What can I do???

OP3 years agoIt's been resolved. I happend to buy another item from the seller today uh...by mistake...And asked him to refund that and the previous one that he never sent me and he finally gave in no thanks to ebay.
I know they can't take the buyers side with digital items but I wish ebay would have the common sense to look at the interaction between seller and buyer in a case like this because all they had to do was see that no message was sent from the seller with the code that I purchased. He didn't even bother to mark it as shipped. Anyway thanks everybody. Will only be using ebay as a last resort after this nonsense and absolutely avoiding anything without mbg.

·3 years agoPaypal has been hacked more than once. I have been with them since they started in the late 1990s. I have never lost a nickel. Anyway, if you used a credit card, do a chargeback.

OP3 years agoSo to sum it up from what ive gathered: The seller never sent the item i bought and i gave him negative feedback after ignoring me. Turns out it wasnt protected by ebays buyer protection nonsense that should just apply to everything you buy on ebay. The seller saw that i left negative feedback and decided not to give me a refund or the item i bought. I reached out to ebay for help. All they did was message the seller for me...something i had already done several times. Seller does not have to send a refund or the item and doesnt even have to keep the negative feedback because in the feedback i mentioned i was going to get ebay involved to solve the issue. Yea im done buying and selling from ebay. Its been a nice 15 years but theres no coming back from this.

·3 years agoThere is absolutely no excuse for what the seller did. But there is a very good reason why eBay doesn't extend the MBG to intangible goods: there's no way to prove receipt of the item. With tangible goods eBay requires proof of delivery in the form of tracking. But there is no form of tracking with intangible goods. I have no doubt you didn't receive your purchase. But imagine how many buyers would seize the opportunity for free stuff if all they had to do was report they didn't receive the item to get a refund.

·3 years agoYou cannot use certain words or wordage in a negative feedback. Apparently, this seller knew what to do. A seller or eBay can remove negative feedback if it is offensive. Long ago, a buyer left negative feedback to me with only the work "fake". I called customer service and they removed it.
Certain words like maybe "crook, mafia, lier" could be worded in a sentence and removed.

OP3 years agoI don't have the exact quote because it was deleted but it was a pretty formal negative feedback. Something like
" I never received a code and no response from seller. Have to wait weeks to report it to ebay. Alot of hassle for a gamepass code."
No profanity and nothing derogatory. I did send him alot of angry messages calling him a bumb and such.

·3 years agoIn red is why it was removed. You cannot mention "opening a case" "reporting to" etc. TO EBAY in feedback or that is grounds for removal (since no buyer is judge/jury, they cannot 'defame' a seller because there is no proof).

·3 years agoI strongly suspect the seller was able to get it removed because you mentioned reporting it to eBay. Feedback rules prohibit "any references to investigations". That includes eBay cases. Many sellers know these rules backward and forward and are quick to have negs removed that break them.

OP3 years agoThat is interesting and very silly of ebay thanks. Wow!

·3 years agoYou may have your post edited because the forum doesn't like naming and shaming, no matter if the other party deserves it. Did you pay with PayPal or a credit card? If the seller can't prove delivery, PayPal will usually get your money back, whereas your last resort is a credit card chargeback.

Paypal doesn't do refunds for intangible items.

OP3 years agoOk that is a good idea I don't have PayPal because it kept getting hacked but we'll see what chase can do. I'll try to remember to let y'all know how it goes.

What you are referring to is a violation of ebay policy. You can not do that.

OP3 years agoAwesome so you can sell "intangible" items on ebay without actually giving the buyer anything and you get to keep their money.
Not sure why you highlighted this???
I don't want a discount or additional items I just want the item I paid for or a refund.

OP3 years agoThanks I appreciate it. It's not even the loss of money that bothers me I just can't believe this is possible. I'm gonna think twice before buying anything on ebay now.

·3 years agoYou can buy on eBay, just check what is covered by MBG first.
