No longer a register user. Is this a scammer and how do I get a refund if that is the case?
The item is gone and not listed anymore and Ebay is giving an error saying no longer a seller. I should not be out 47 dollars. We are protected on Ebay are we not? Also, if this is a scammer then they should be arrested. This is called theft. Theft is a crime in every Country.

Yes you are still protected, the listing should be in your purchase history even if they have been removed. You can check the last estimated delivery date by clicking on the Order details button, and if your item does not arrive by the last delivery date, you can open an Item Not Received dispute, and get a refund.
There are a few reasons a seller my be removed from the site and not all are for a seller scamming people. Some new sellers do get removed for non performance reasons like not shipping items, because of their lack of selling experience on ebay, not because they were trying to scam people. So suggesting that ebay should prosecute them isn't realistic. Besides it would be the buyers who were defrauded who would have to take the scammer to court, in the seller's location, not ebay, which would be cost prohibitive.

OP2 years agoThrows up a red flag when an account is terminated and so is the listing of the purchase I made. Also, again Ebay better not be allowing people to end their accounts after recent transactions. Thank you for the replies everyone. I'm still confused.

It takes months for a seller to close their account, specifically because eBay has to be certain all their transactions are complete. When a seller suddenly shows as not a registered user it's because eBay suspended their account, either temporarily or permanently. Yes, eBay can suspend a seller because they detect the seller is non-performing. But they can also suspend a seller because they're delinquent on paying their selling fees, or for multiple other reasons. No one but eBay and the seller know the reason.
Even if a seller has been suspended you're still covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee. The purchase should still be in your purchase history. Go to it and select 'I didn't receive it' under More actions to open a case.

I disagree because I just got scammed...
My messages to the seller/scammer went through perfectly while I was waiting for my item shipment. For three weeks I contacted the seller, and out of curiosity I clicked the Seller Name's profile, and this was when I realised I got scammed with an "Unregistered Ebay User" profile... I did not know that my messages could go through perfectly even when the seller account was closed!! Evidently, I sent the thug my last message knowing he was no longer using Ebay with "I won't let you get away with this!" and it went through without rejection. :)) In other words, the scammer can close his account and go ByeBye first before Ebay can step in to "elliminate" the seller!!
At any rate, I contacted Ebay afterwards and immediately had the case in my favor. It was an instant refund!!

·1 year agoOK, after reading more messages, I guess Ebay won't let scamming sellers to close their account immediately...
Good Job, Ebay!!

You're jumping the gun, making what might be inaccurate assumptions and worrying about losing your $47.
1. It's not necessarily a red flag when a seller is suspended. Often, sellers' are temporarily suspended because they haven't updated their account with identity information, banking info, etc. Those accounts are reactivated when the sellers supply ebay with the requested and required information.
2. When an account is suspended, all items are removed and no longer viewable. This is automatic and not the seller's doing.
3. Sellers can't close their accounts for (I believe) 180 days after their last activity.
4. As the buyer, you have protection/MBG if the seller doesn't send the item or if the item is NAD.
You also say you're "disappointed because the price on the item was too good to be true." While it's not uncommon to find great deals at great prices, checking a seller's history, listings, feedback, etc. can give you a feel for whether it's a real deal or not.

·2 years agoAs @klitschk-70 posted on the "Buying" board, @12345jamesstamps, I think they're referring to a purchase that they made from a seller who is no longer registered.
@klitschk-70, I'm assuming that one of the reasons you chose eBay to make your purchase is that most sales are covered by a Money Back Guarantee policy. Is the sale still in your purchase history? You should be able to file a claim through that policy. If not, contact eBay (the online chat options through Facebook or X/Twitter have a better reputation than the phone options) and they'll work out your refund.

OP2 years agoDisappointed because the price on the item was too good to be true. Also, I don't know how a seller is allowed to delete their account after recently selling items to multiple people. Or was it terminated by Ebay? If it was terminated by Ebay then wouldn't we all have been refunded already if they realized this person is a scammer? If it turns out this person is a scammer then I hope they find him in his/her home Country and they throw the book at them. I'm sure Chinese Jails are worse than the soft Jails in our Country. Other Countries don't play games with thieves or criminals. We all know the soft punishments that happen in our Country. I could go on and on about it but I'm already explaining something most of you know so much about. The Media reports on it all the time about how so and so was let out only to continue to commit crimes.

"Disappointed because the price on the item was too good to be true'.
That is often the first red flag buyers should watch out for, and a reason to check a seller's feedback profile.
" I don't know how a seller is allowed to delete their account after recently selling items to multiple people. Or was it terminated by Ebay"?
Sellers wanting to close their accounts have to wait until 6 months after their last transaction, before their account is closed. So ebay is who closed them down.
"If it was terminated by Ebay then wouldn't we all have been refunded already if they realized this person is a scammer?"
eBay can't do that in case some of the items the seller sold may have been shipped and been received, before the seller was removed, and ebay can't take those funds back. At least not without risking a law suit. Besides, reading the terms of the Money Back Guarantee (MBG) and following its time frames will get you a refund.
"If it turns out this person is a scammer then I hope they find him in his/her home Country and they throw the book at them. I'm sure Chinese Jails are worse than the soft Jails in our Country".
If the transaction was with a chinese seller, their government isn't going to do squat. They already know how many items listed by their sellers are counterfeit ones, how their sellers go about trying to avoid returns or refunds by getting unwary buyers to lose their MBG protections, by using stalling tactics, or getting buyers to close disputes with promises of sending replacements, or saying a dispute has to be closed before a refund can be sent... The chicom govt. turns a blind eye to those activities and to many others because they are directly involved in some of them. In their opinion they are at economic war with the U.S. so all's fair.

·2 years agoOops...I just assumed a buyer would realize they would get their money back for an item not received even if seller is no longer a registered user.
Guess I did read it wrong.

·2 years agoAs a seller the funds will not be returned to the buyer because the buyer is no longer registered on eBay.
There is not refund to give to the seller because the seller did not lose the funds from the sale.
The seller still receives the funds from the sale.
eBay tells seller to not ship out item if it hasn't happened yet. If it has been shipped out...it's OK.
The seller is not out of $47.00.
