New seller shipped out item in 10 minutes, am I being scammed?
Might be a dumb anxious question but I made a big purchase and I am a little worried I fell for a trap because the seller is new but the post seemed real enough from the pictures. Description was vague, just stated the item. The deal I got seemed a little too good to be true, but not that low where I'd think it was immediately a red flag. Within 10 minutes I was told it was shipped by Ebay but it just says the label was made. The seller themselves said they shipped it out. Is being a new seller indicative with being a scammer? I did pay through PayPal so this might be me worrying for no reason, worst comes to worse I can file a claim. Just wanted to see if I could ease my own worry but hearing other people out. Thoughts?

Ease your worry about what? ebay has a 30 day money back guarantee. If the item never shipped at all you would get your money back.

·2 years agoSometimes I have gotten a item out the door and to the post office in less than a half hour. Takes about ten minutes to pack and label and five minutes to get to the post office. As soon as I get back home I send a e-bay message saying it was dropped off and I state the time stamped on the receipt.
Just check to see if there is a tracking number and keep an eye on its progress.

I don't think there is a lot to worry about here. There are times I have available time to prepare something for shipment right after a buyer has paid. So I will package it and print the shipping label for shipping either later that day if I date the label for the same day or for the next day and I do date the label appropriately.
When a seller creates a label on Ebay, it automatically generates an email to the buyer notifying them of the shipment and the tracking number. Keep in mind Ebay ships absolutely NOTHING. So when it says "shipped by Ebay", all that means is the shipping label was created in Ebay.
FYI purchasing through PayPal isn't necessary to be protected. You have plenty of protections right here in Ebay and can file a claim in Ebay if something were to happen. So you are well covered.
Just relax and watch for your package to arrive. You can follow the tracking if that helps you to feel a little more secure. There should hopefully be an acceptance scan by the carrier tomorrow.

·2 years agoI was ALL OVER my first sale on eBay, wanting to make sure that it went out on time, was well packaged etc.
I was able to print the label right away that evening and was ready to drive straight to the post office as soon as they opened. Then Harvey struck Texas. No power, not just at the house, but pretty much everywhere in Houston. For days.
No Post Office, UPS or FedEx was open anywhere. They had no power either. And if they did, they still had no gas for heating, so would not be able to open anyway.
Thank goodness cell service still worked in places, so was able to charge my phone in the car and use the app to communicate with the buyer (who may have wondered about a scam too as if I recall, the item was listed as an auction and sold for $280, way more than I expected, it was a gun related item in Feb 2021, so I guess I got lucky).
I drove to that post office every day for 3 days. Closed. On the 4th day, the lobby was open (though not the actual office) and I was able to drop it in the outgoing slot as it was a small flat rate priority box. Filmed myself doing that too.
And once tracking showed that the item was actually moving, I let the buyer know it was officially on it's way.
The point of the long winded story is that the seller wanting to make sure their first sale goes well does not necessarily make it it a scam. Mine had several 'red flags', although I had been on eBay since 2004 and this was Feb 2021.

At this point, i’d say there is not enough hard evidence for much concern. The concern comes once there is an absolute to define the transaction—keep in mind that suspicions are not facts, though it is always wise to examine one’s intuition. So you are right to listen to the inner voice.
I wish there was more faith in the system to prevent buyers from having new seller nerves. (Buyers are well covered by eBay’s Money Back Guarantee.) And i wish even more so vice versa. (Far too many sellers eyeing new buyers with abject prejudice. But to be fair, sellers take all the risks.) There even exist sellers who might have an issue with your lower feedback score and fret about selling to an occasional buyer.
As others have said, a quick shipper is not an indication of something wrong. Rather that sounds like a conscientious seller. A seller excited about their first sale. So for now, no need to jump the gun. Once the item arrives, your concerns will be defined as warranted or not. Until then, comfort yourself with the confidence that eBay has your back.

·2 years agoThat's what I was thinking. A new Seller excited to get their first sale and wanting to ship it out asap. They maybe even had it already sitting there packed just waiting for a buyer so they could do the label.

·2 years agoI've had orders pop-up while on the ebay site and printed the shipping under a minute after the sale. Not every new seller is out to scam you just like not every new buyer with 0 feedback is looking to scam you either.

·2 years agoThere is no 'trap' here - at least not so far. As you said you can always file a dispute later on if something goes sideways but the short time period between making the sale and seeing the label printed means nothing.
Over in my selling account I have many items all ready to ship when an order comes in. A label in 10 minutes is no problem at all. I can even skip weighing the package in many cases because I have sold the same thing many times before. Just grab the item off the shelf - grab the packaging material (padded envelope or box) off the shelf - print the packing slip on one end of a sheet of paper - print the mailing label on the other end - snip-snip-snip - tape-tape-tape - off to the post office with all my packages at the end of the day.
Get back to us when you have a REAL problem. ðŸ˜
Okay - it IS possible that you bit on a scam listing but the short shipping time is not really a factor. Keep a close eye on the tracking of your shipment so that you know when its out for delivery and see how things go. Keep us informed!

·2 years agoThe label being created/printed is the first status. When the package is scanned by usps is when you first start seeing tracking info. So if someone printed a label but they don't actually ship until tomorrow, it won't be scanned right away. The other thing they could have done is dropped the package off without it being scanned first, in a mailbox or like a big mail bin, where it may get scanned at a later time. I wouldn't worry about it right now.

·2 years agoYou may be being a bit too anxious, but there aren't any dumb questions. The seller may seem "new" to you, but may have been doing this for decades. Low feedback, or start date, does not mean they are new; just that the account you bought from may be. I know my fb score looks low considering the amount of time I've had an ebay account, but I didn't become active until about 7 years ago, and mostly use it as a seller account, so my score is dismal compared to my competitors who also buy on here. Keep an eye on your tracking. That will tell you the true story.
Like others have stated, I pretty much ship right away if an order comes in before my 2:00 p.m. cut off time for daily pick up. Otherwise, they go out the next day.

·2 years agoIf seller is selling a lot of items I wouldn't be worried. If seller had only one item up for sale...that's another matter.
If seller hasn't sold anything in a month...sellers won't get your funds for 30+ days...and seller might not ship item out but your seller shipped it so quickly.
If its a deal too good to be true...then it might be.
Although you can get your payment returned...of course you have to "wait" until estimated date of
delivery...and there is some hoops and red tape to approach...it seems like a hassle to me. Just my own opinion. I wouldn't buy from a seller with no feedback unless it cost like 5 bucks or so.

And I started out selling inexpensive items to start with.

·2 years agoSo you're are feeling anxious because the seller is highly efficient? I have many time, just as I was getting ready to make my post office run, done a quick check for any new last minute sales and they get printed withing minutes of the sale being made and only minutes beyond that I, and the package, are on the way to the post office.

·2 years agoI print the labels usually right after i am paid. Once they do take the package to the shipper you will know. The tracking will indicate the shipper has the package. I would not be worried until you have a something to worry about. Good luck. You have Ebay MBG.

·2 years agoYou can open an item not received one day after the estimated delivery date shown in the listing for a full refund if you do not receive. So you have the Money Back covering you.
If it shows delivered but you have not received it, do not open an item not received case, come here first and the good people that help here can guide you through what needs to be done next.

·2 years agoAnswering as a seller, sometimes someone buys something just as we are heading out the door to the post office. Will stop, wrap and ship, so item gets out with the rest and gets to buyer even quicker.
Sometimes we will also print a label for the next morning (if we’ve already ran to post office) so that the buyer knows it’s ready to go in the morning.
The fact that the buyer shipped quickly and that the seller is communicating with you would lead me to believe you may be overthinking a bit.
All else fails, you stated you paid via PayPal, so I’d relax some and take the night off from stressing out.

·2 years agoSame. I've had plenty of sales come in right as I was packing things to go out that day or the next day. If I have the item on hand, it only takes me a few minutes to pack it up and print a label.
