New fee to assist infinite relistings
There's a trend that's been going on which is quite horrible to be honest with you and eBay needs to put a stop to it real quick
Remember back in the day when people used to do the $1 item $1,000 shipping scam?
Well now we have the $1 item that's listed at $1,000. Literally. I'm seeing items that are anywhere from $1 in worth to $15 in worth and people are listing these items at $50 $100 $5,000 $50,000. You name it. I'm seeing it. I'm seeing complete junk that they're pulling out of a ditch with steel fresh dirt on these items listed as three times the price of the same item you find in the store brand new in the box with a warranty.
I've contacted many of these sellers and ask them why they think their item is worth that much and why someone should bid on these items.
As you would imagine I got a nasty reply and told me that I couldn't afford the item so just buzz off etc etc etc
So this is the way I see it. If eBay continues to let these people relist infinitely forever without any repercussions eBay is going to turn into the biggest joke site of all time.
In order to stop this all eBay has to do is put a fee on the relisting. Like for example let's start off at 10 or 15 cents to re-list after 7 days. After the 7 days have passed let's say another 7 days and bump it to $0.25. keep doing that on a graduation scale and people will end up taking the item down or they will lower the price until it's sold. EBay needs to specifically specify that in order to help sell the item we are going to charge a fee to have the seller lower the item until it sells.
I don't think this is any worse than promoted listings to be honest with you. I'm sure everybody will have their opinion about it but I'm going to be honest here. I'm pretty sick of seeing these garbage items put on here and I really think eBay needs to do something about it
So eBay I'm telling you right now please initiate a new fee scale for these infinite listings.
It would benefit you greatly because you're going to make a small profit off of these realistings. Without this technique, you ain't arent anything in regards to income from these freeoading garbage lists..They are taking up precious bandwidth on your servers and taken up precious space on the search results week aafter week month after month. Many years after year..
It would benefit the potential buyers greatly because we don't want to see $5,000 packs of crackers.
And if somebody wants to pay for $5,000 pack of crackers cool fine They could do so within 7 days or the price will lower to whatever the seller thinks is worth, but they need to lower it until they start getting bids. Or the listing gets taken down till they pay a relist fee . This is a logical method to getting these infinite realistic garbage auctions off of the website

So, here's the deal. I list a $50 item at $1500. Shoppers see it, open the listing, read all about it, save it in their watch list. WHY? Because like you, they want to know what they might be missing.
AND, they also click on "see sellers other items" just to see how "off my rocker" I really am. Only to find out that my other items are a really good deal. And while snooping around in my store, they see something they need, and buy it.
Why did I have to do this? Because eBay says it's fine, and because eBay's search results are SO manipulated, it's difficult for a sellers items to be seen.
My MOST VIEWED and MOST WATCHED items are two listings that are priced INSANELY HIGH.

And as we can see .. people aren't not that stupid . It was a thing a while back but now it's just not cool .
So basically you're part of the problem..
If you had an integrity or any decent items for sale then you wouldn't have to create stupid priced items to grab people's attention..
It's called show boating..

Even if I wanted to sell my car, I couldn't place it on some parking lot for free for ever.. I could try to sell it for 8000 million dollars but then I'd have to pay a free to have it sit in some parking lot for sale... Forever..cause noone would buy it then I'd be losing money daily from the fees . .
How many cars have you ever seen , with a stupid price tag on it, sitting in some parking lot for 3 decades? Collecting dust?
Think about that .
That's what eBay is allowing..
Show me a store where cans of soup are collecting dust on the shelf , priced at 500$ .. and sitting on the shelf for free!
Even the grocery stores charge a shelf fee .. did you know that?
That's right.. depending on what kart of the shelf the item is on the item will gets charged a fee..
But eBay thinks it's ok to let anyone list anything for any price and let it relist forever...and ever...
Amazing. How did they ever think of such an amazing jaw dropping business idea!
Let's allow everyone to create there own prices and let them relist that price... Forever.. while we lay for the bandwidth (eBay) and make the customers see the genius business idea every time they do a search!

There are tons of them in my town with items I remember being there when I first moved here, 11 years ago, still there, some quite dusty. The vendors are paying a monthly rental fee for their booth space, and they can put out whatever they want for sale, priced however they want, for as long as they want. -As long as they pay their monthly booth rent.
That is exactly how it works for sellers here too. We pay store monthly subscriptions for "up to" however many listings that subscription allows -different size stores, different monthly fees, just like booth sizes in a brick and mortar joint.
If you don't like it YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY OR SELL HERE.

·1 year agoWe are in 2 group shops. The same item can be in 5 different booths, with 5 different prices. Prices vary from dealer to dealer. Some items will take a year plus to sell. Sometimes we take it out ( if it is a large item ), if it is small we let it sit there. Some times we get a good deal on an item, and we by multiples, each time it sells we bring in another one. Bottom line is, if you like it at the price the seller is asking buy it. If the price is to high keep scrolling. Good Luck

It as about Ebay deciding what is good business, and a way to optimize their profits, as is their right.
It is about about people who think they can second guess Ebay's decisions because they do not meet the requirements of their personality disorders.
When Ebay was not the best venue for me to sell on, I went elsewhere. It may not be perfect, but for what I sell, it is the best, at least at this point in time.

Actually, it was eBay's idea to have "good til cancelled" fixed price listings that automatically renewed the following month on the 'anniversary' date. They make money on these even if they don't sell. They will gladly accept promoted listing fees for same and even have come up with new plans to increase eBay's take through Pay per click options or the new attribution rules coming soon. .
It is likely true that many items are overpriced, WAY OVER Priced, and speculation as to the reasons still abound. However, it has been many years since eBay had a problem where the "back button" didn't work...LOL. I can list an item for $10K, use another ID to list it for $500, and voila! It might get me a buyer that thinks they are getting a deal. Fortunately, after 24 years I quit selling here. I have a conscience. Often those that do not, seem to do "better"....KARMA is a **itch

·1 year agoPrices and condition of flea-market items vary as the crow flies. You can get some great buys or your clock cleaned. It's always been up to buyers to check and compare prices from as many other sellers as they can. Even more so in venues like this.
Some sellers put very high prices on items when they run out of stock so they don't have to remove the listings. Place holders, that is not allowed by eBay but it's hard to prove. I suspect that is what your seeing.

Dude I don't care what the reasoning is for increasing the price. You can increase it all you want.
But when the item sits there month after month year after year and clearly nobody wants to bid then eBay should do something about it.
Like for real how many times have you passed in front of a car dealership and seeing the same cars there over and over and over? Imagine if you did that. How do you think you would feel if you saw a Ford truck sitting in the Ford dealership parking lot year after year after year and nobody wanted to pay for it. You would think something's wrong right?
But what do you think people think when they see these stupid prices on eBay and nobody's paying? They think it's stupid They think it's funny they're laughing. And eBay's letting them do it and they're saying on Facebook and TikTok and other social media that eBay is a joke.
This is a virus. It's getting out of hand.
Are you going to also say that the scam from 20 years ago about when people charged $500 in shipping for a $1 item was also acceptable?
Seriously people y'all really need to think about things. This is no longer a laughing matter. People can make up any prices they want sure but we all know that that's just not the way to do business. It just doesn't look good in any way shape or form. It's just horrible to be honest with you.
I'm giving legitimate ways to fix this problem. I don't see anybody else in here coming up with a problem fixing resolution. All I see is people in here saying that I'm harassing sellers because I'm asking them why anybody should pay $20,000 for a paper clip...
And I bet as I sit here and say that some of you are probably laughing. You laugh because you know it's silly it's stupid it's sad and it's disgusting. And that's my point

OP1 year agoThe whole entire point of eBay is to sell something. And to have somebody buy that something and then be happy!
The website is turning into a place where people create useless auctions and buy it now point of sales that nobody can ever afford or will never buy and then share the link to that useless item and then they laugh at the link and say haha look how funny eBay is.
There's people on eBay that spend a lot of money and time making a business out of this. And then we have people that are using eBay as if it's some sort of joke.
I think in my opinion that if I were a CEO of ebay I would seriously consider doing something about this. It's messing up search results. It's messing up prices. It's causing a lot of havoc. It's just wrong. It's just not good at all.
And really to be honest I don't appreciate some of you people coming in here saying I'm harassing sellers because I'm asking them why they're pricing their items so out of reach and so out of logic.
As I said before if you want a price a $2 pack of cheese for $5,000 you go ahead and do it. But if you don't get any bids in 7 days eBay is going to start charging a fee. That fee is going to increase in increments and you can either take the item down or you can continue to pay the fee and lower the price until it's sold. Simple. That's the way it should be.
When you go to a real auction which I'm pretty sure none of you have ever been to, but if you go to a real auction that's kind of how it goes. They start off with a price. Let's say they want to sell a car for $15,000. They go up to $15,005 then 15,006. If they don't go to $17,000 and they can't get any further bids they go down to $16,005. The auction doesn't sit there at a price that nobody wants. Forever. The auctioneer forces people to get to a price that they're willing to pay so that the seller gets his money the auction house gets their money and things get completed in a timely manner.
It's just stupid to to let an auction sit at an unreasonable price forever. Why would eBay allow such stupidity?

Why? Ebay doesn't care, most buyers don't care and the sellers don't mind sitting on their items waiting for the right buyer.

That's because it's not a problem that needs a resolution! If we see items that we don't want, think the price is too high, think the condition is too poor, think the shipping is too high, think it's been listed for too many months (or years) without selling or whatever, we just hit the back button and go on to the next listing we want to look at.

That was fixed when ebay smartened up and started charging FVF on the entire amount of buyers' payments. Now we have to listen to sellers complain about being "charged FVF on sales tax and shipping when they don't see that money."

·1 year agoOn eBay, as with most on line sites, and even B&M retailers, sellers are allowed to price their items any way they choose. Sellers can buy or not buy, according to their wishes.

Let's go ahead and look up all the videos where eBay likes to do all sorts of things to auctions including holding people's money for no particular reason.
Look you've already sidetracked my post so I'm not going to be posting and responded to anybody anymore. EBay should go ahead and take my consideration seriously because people are posting these stupid ridiculous priced items on social media all over the place and laughing and saying how much of a joke eBay is
Now if you want to go ahead and you want to continue to do business on a site that people are laughing at you keep doing that. But personally me I would like to go ahead and try to assist eBay and fixing their platform so everyone can enjoy it not just the children that thinks the prices are stupid and funny..

·1 year agoYes, it would indeed be illegal for eBay to attempt to regulate prices. It's called price fixing and falls under Federal antitrust laws.
Bottom line, the US marketplace is driven by supply and demand, and, with the exception of strictly defined necessary goods such as masks during the pandemic, sellers are free to ask whatever price they want. Buyers are equally free to hit the back button. It's called free enterprise, and it's the system that governs commerce in the US.
I'm just curious how a seller listing something at an inflated price even affects you, particularly to a level that would prompt this level of rant?

Make a price! If the price is too high, the auctioneer goes DOWN till someone starts bidding again..

Even James Bond movies show the auctioneer going up. Up and then slowly sticks to a bid then tries to go back down when they get no bids for the last price.. they keep going down till someone accepts the price..
If the last bidder stops at 45k and they auctioneer asks 59k, the auctioneer goes back down 56k, 53k, 50k, till they get to the last bidders price..
But here on eBay the price don't change..
It is stuck as insanity and never goes down and eBay just allows it. For ever...noone bids. No one sells, eBay loses , we all lose cause we gotta see the same item week after week month after month in search results..and eBay just let's it happen..
Imagine if you went to an auction..a real one .
And everyone wanted to sell there items above, way above what anyone wanted to buy. And what would be in the auction house is all sorts of ieyms sitting there, forever never being sold..
You know what the auction house would do?
Charge a fee for the items to sit there . Till they are sold..
This is what eBay needs to do .

Everyone pays for Amazon Warehouse fees...it's to make sure the item gets sold.. the longer the items sits there the less valuable it is to the seller..
But eBay thinks it's a good idea to let any seller list a item for whatever price they want and results it for free. Forever.. 😂
And what you think is gonna happen?
Your little party cups and paper plates will start costing 500$
Your curling irons will cost 875$
Of course noone will eventually bid so eBay would become a ghost site .

Lowering the piece is not against the law lady..eBay already has several price lowring tactics in place.

Car dealerships do this .
The manufacturers have specific requirements to move inventory or the dealerships get penalized.
Nanyone people buy vehicles at end of year due to these incentives..

·1 year agoThere's someone here who has no idea what they're talking about, and it isn't me. Here's the official government definition of "price fixing":
"Price fixing is an illegal agreement between competitors to artificially manipulate prices, usually by raising, lowering, or stabilizing them, rather than allowing market forces to determine prices. This practice is a serious antitrust violation, as it undermines fair competition and can lead to higher prices for consumers."
So no, none of those things you mention is price fixing. 🙄

Does no good to request anything here, no one here can do anything about it and Ebay won't even see your post.
