Need help, purchased a $1500 plant with rot and seller is denying it
I bought a houseplant and it was shipped to me in very wet moss (which is a no-no for shipping plants) and the plant was loose in the box (normally plants I receive are wrapped in polyester and newspaper). One end of the stem was rotting/moldy and the roots were rotting. Leaves had minor bruising, not too bad but the rot was the main issue. I messaged the seller immediately with photos after receiving it, and he said to "cut off the rot" which I did and there was a good chunk of rot.
The listing said no returns and I did wait a little over a week before doing anything because I thought I was stuck with the plant. But apparently I learned you can still return it if the item has issues.
So I opened a return request and the seller is saying, word for word, "the listing photo shows that it's soft and squishy" and circled a brown area on the stem. However, the stem is naturally brown so how can I tell from the photo that it's rotten vs normal coloration? He also said he can't take it back because I "modified the stem" because part of it is now "missing" - which is the rotten part he told me to cut off. He also said he packed "well" and to take it up with UPS for mishandling the package.
And he said it's normal for "some" roots to be dead though the listing clearly showed live roots that are now dead. And he said the mold was not mold but what he used to treat the plant (??) and that wet moss can't cause rot (but why did I receive it rotten?). And he offered me a $300 partial refund but I definitely wouldn't have bought the plant at all if I knew it had rot. I would rather return it.
How should I proceed with this? Looks like I can ask ebay to "step in" on 3/26. Not sure if they'll help the seller or me, because the seller is saying every issue I brought up with the plant is either "as described and normal" or it's the UPS's fault. I could take the $300 refund but then it's still a $1200 plant that has rot issues. What do you all think?

·2 years agoThat’s a fungal plant seller, they sell sick plants. Keep photo documents, then share them with eBay. Leave bad review after with the photo’s. so, no one buys from them. It should be covered by eBay, find some google info. It’s bacterial rot and fungal rot, that can last in the soil for years. So it’s not the plane if they try to blame the ride. Any healthy plant will live a shipping, a non healthy one will not. If they do soil testing or have natural fungal eliminating matter in soil, plus fungicide treatment’s. Then you’re probably out of luck. It probably be in their favor. Thing is no plant seller does that.
