My eBay gift card got frozen
I bought several eBay gift card in 2016. One of them I forgot to use. Now when I found it, eBay showed 0 balance. I contacted customer service was told I need to provide original receipt to prove I am the owner. I found some other card’s receipt but not this one.
I checked the store where I bought the card. They also not kept the receipt for so long. It seemed there’s no way I can use it. Called eBay customer service and seemed they will keep my money forever now.
I would suggest whoever buy eBay gift card need to use it right away. Otherwise there’s huge risk that you may permanently lost your money. The better way is to not buy any eBay gift card. In contrast, no issue for old Amazon gift card. They will not require receipt and truly deem it like cash.

·1 year agoI purchased an Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max with 1TB storage, using Order Number 23-12374-XXXXX, on November 29 at 6:36 PM. I paid with two gift cards totaling $997 and used Google Pay for an additional $12.99.
I requested a return for the item and received a refund of $1,009.99 on December 17, 2024. However, my two gift cards have been frozen because your system detected unusual activity.
I've bought other items using gift cards, such as a graphic card and a router. When I contacted support, I was informed that my cards were frozen, but I received no notice or email about this situation. I have reached out to eBay every day for the past seven days. I've been an eBay member for around 11 years, with an account registered in the U.S. and a U.S. shipping address for redeeming gift cards. My phone number is verified. I meet the terms and conditions for redeeming a gift card, and I provided the necessary documents.
They sent an e-mail:
We have received the documents you supplied regarding the eBay gift cards you purchased. We have reviewed both the documents and your account.
Our eBay Terms and Conditions states that you must have an eBay account with a registered address in the US, and a US shipping address to redeem the gift card(s). Gift cards are not redeemable outside the US or its territories.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for any questions you may have.

As this concludes our investigation, we will be unable to respond to further requests regarding this gift card.
If you purchased your card from a third party, please work with them to discuss returns.
Regards,
eBay
I contacted customer service again and I captured image from computer using the camera. It’s a hard situation. I’m waiting the e-mail again.

·2 years agoeBay doesn't sell gift cards so they can't help you. If you got them 8 years ago chances are you either used them long ago and forgot, or they were already tampered with at whatever store it was before you bought them. Nothing anyone can do for you sorry.

OP2 years agoIt’s eBay gift card. They can track I have fund there. eBay sold to grocery store, I bought to pay items I ordered from eBay. Now broke link is I cannot find the old receipt eBay demanded. If I do it again, I probably never buy eBay gift card. Amazon card is safer and truly doesn’t have expiration date.

·2 years agoI found this 👇in Gift Cards: Terms and conditions so when eBay CS required a receipt they were going by their Gift Card Policy.

OP2 years agoI read the terms said the lost or stolen cards need receipt. In my case, I still have the physical card, not belongs to this category.
The way it could apply is if eBay think it’s suspicious. But again you could question any gift cards just like others experienced. I can tell how much it’s in the card, what time frame I bought it. I have those info as I have several unforgotten gift cards with receipts.
