Multiple Bids by same buyer
Hi Guys!
Found this listing and can't quite grasp why there are 3 bids by the same buyer and all 3 bids are listed with their highest bid currently the winning bid....
Thought if you placed more than one bid and you where the only bidder, then your lowest bid is posted as currently winning?

·7 months agoPretty sure the actual reserve price is never shown, just a notation the reserve has been met or exceeded.

·7 months agoThe 'reserve' goes away when someone bids enough to clear it, so it could show the same bidder bidding trying to get above the reserve.
Bidder 1xyz- $200
Bidder 1xyz- $300
Bidder 1xyz-$450 (reserve met but only the bidder and seller know that); it is NOT shown.

I'm not doubting you, and granted, I haven't bid on a reserve price auction in years maybe 10 or more, so maybe my memory of this off, but I swear when a reserve was met, it was posted in the bid history or on the sold item page.

·7 months agoSame here (been over a decade since I 'bid' or 'listed/sold' on auctions, but that is the last I remember.
Reserve goes away and nobody even knew there was a reserve (except those that watched/viewed it before reserve was met)

·7 months agoI believe that eBay changed the way reserves were displayed in bid history a while back; the "reserve not met" may still be displayed or else appears in the listing itself, but once the reserve has actually been met there is no visible indication of a reserve at all, other than the price being shown the reserve price. This does make interpreting bid history much more complicated compared to when the older "reserve has been met" notation was used.
A $450 reserve would account for the current price and the bid history, I think.
Unfortunately the seller has no other recent listings to compare to see if the seller has used reserves routinely.

I tried checking that too to no avail. I guess later I'll have to hunt for an auction with a reserve price that's got some time left on it, to see what happens. O wonder if the Reserve Met notation removal was an A.I. decision. Not being sentient, it wouldn't understand why that info would be helpful to humans. The same with Private listings feedback no longer having a sellers name.

You're right bidders cannot bid against them selves raising the price.
Either ebay has made an unannounced major change to bidding on auctions with a Buy It Now price, making that price a Reserve price, or there is some sort of glitch happening. One thing I noticed on the Bid History page is the ability to See Automatic bids is no longer there.

Below the list of bids there's a notice in hard-to-see, small typeface that says "Gray italic text indicates an automatic bid (proxy bid) placed by eBay on behalf of the bidder." So maybe the policy change includes having the automatic bids showing all the time, instead of having a link to toggle them on and off. Or, maybe that link doesn't appear until there is/are any automatic bids been actuated . . . I was never that familiar with them anyway.

If ebay is showing automatic bids all of the time, which is not what happened in this instance, it still does not change the fact that a bidder cannot bid against their self and raise the price. If there was an automatic bid involved you would see at the top, Bids 4 Bidders 2, Not Bids 3 Bidders 1. Unless this was a Reserve price auction, which it does not seem to be.

OP7 months agoThat is how I understood things but eBay throws a little something in the works from time to time that defies logic.
This listing referenced did NOT have a reserve when I viewed it prior to any bids.
Just curious what others thought about it or if they have seen other examples of this.
