merchandise is missing parts, seller (so far) has not authorized return.......
Hello, I purchased an item on ebay over two weeks ago; a computer CPU with the heatsink fan which was (supposedly) brand new in box. The photographs showed all sides of the box except for one side. It took two weeks to get here from a city that is approximately 400 miles away. when it finally arrived, the box only contained the CPU, not the heatsink. The side of the box that was not shown in the listing photographs actually has a cut-out to provide a window in the box so the customer can actually see the heatsink inside the box (the heatsink is approximately a 2-inch square and very thin in size.) Also the security tape on the top of the flap had been cut indicating it was not 'never opened'. I sent an email to the seller and of course he asked for photos because "everything should be in the box, it was sealed". I took a photo of what I received, but I also went to the listing and copied the seller's photo. I sent him the actual photo in his listing, and I sent him a slightly enlarged copy of that same photo showing his hand holding the box (as in the listing) but when enlarged you can see clearly that the tape on the flap was compromised. I did this intentionally with his photo from the listing so he can see that his own photograph indicates that it was not sealed. I also pointed out that his listing did not show that side of the box with the 'window' where the CPU it situated inside the closed box. Anyway, he wrote back after seeing my text and new photos and said "OK, please send back the box with all contents." Well now, 4 days later, has has not authorized the return as yet. I did not receive a return label but the info on the return details page says, "Please ship your item to proceed with your return." I think the cut-off date for him to authorize the return is December 13. I very rarely have a situation like this; I presume that I am not expected to send it back to him until he authorizes the return and sends a return label-- is that correct? any other thoughts? thank you!

OP1 year agogosh, i'm really not on facebook. I have an account but don't really use it. I wrote to the seller and his response was "let me check" but no response after that. SHould I get in touch with the facebook team now? I sure feel like something isn't right here. YOu know, the seller posted lots of photos in the listing, except the side of the box which showed the tears within the 'window' which showed part of the product. I'm really not feeling good about this.
How can i get in touch with the ebay facebook people?

·1 year ago@roaringscreeen 1st- you don't need 'much' of an account on Facebook; the one you have will work.
But, you can 'escalate to ebay' after a while (see the return case) as it is the SELLERS problem if an item NEVER Gets to them- as long as you used the label provided.

Use the blue message button.
You will have to provide your eBay User name, telephone number and email attached to the account, stuff like that.
Transaction ID would help.

·1 year ago@roaringscreeen typically, this is how a Item Not As Described case goes. I do realize you have already started the return.
Go to your eBay Purchase History and open a return case.
Find the item in your Purchase History and press the big, blue 'Return this item' button. Select "Item is Not as Described" or "Missing parts or pieces" as the reason for the return.
If it requires you to upload a photo to the return case you will need to do that.
Seller will be required to provide a prepaid shipping label IF they want the item back before refunding. Send the item back with the prepaid return label.
When the return tracking shows delivered back to the seller, the seller will have 2 days to inspect and refund your purchase. If that does not happen, on day 3 there will be an "Ask eBay to Step In", option for you to click on. EBay will refund your money.
If seller does not send a return label within 3 days and the "Ask eBay To Step In" option is not available, you will have to contact eBay. Contact eBay thru Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/eBay
Using the instant messaging and explain that the seller has not provided a return label.
Under NO circumstances do you close the return before getting your refund, REGARDLESS of what the seller might tell you.
Come back here with any or all questions you might have throughout this process.

OP1 year agothank you all for your help. The seller initially said "OK" when I asked him to approve the return, but I haven't heard from him since. Let's see what happens by December 13............ thanks again to all for your responses.

OP1 year agoWell.... I thought this was going to be over today but I am having another problem....
The seller finally agreed to the return and sent me a return label. It was scheduled to be delivered today dec 16; it was " out for delivery". But now, the tracking from USPS says, "Your item was forwarded to a different address at 2:18 pm on December 16, 2024 in PHOENIX, AZ. This was because of forwarding instructions or because the address or ZIP Code on the label was incorrect." So, what do I do now? I have no idea where this is going or when it is scheduled to arrive. I am wondering if the seller is 'playing games' with me since he sent me the return label. Anyone have any thoughts? thank you.

·1 year agoYou wait until you see a delivered scan and then the seller has 2 days to inspect and refund. After that, if no refund, ask eBay to step in.
Even if the delivery completely stalls, eBay has been known step in a refund as long as you sent the return with the label that was in the return case. I have read several cases here on the boards where that happened, eBay refunding before the item actually reaches the seller. Usually due to carrier delays.
Just don't close the case before getting your refund. Be patient at this time. Keep the boardies here informed.

·1 year ago@roaringscreeen another thought is being "out for delivery" and then forwarded is perhaps enough to get the eBay Facebook reps to check that and force the refund.
The seller gets a defect in that case, but hey, sounds like the OP is getting jacked around a bit through this whole deal.
Wondering if anyone else here has thoughts on that?

·1 year agoIt might take another day for this option to show up, but you should be able to return to case and escalate it to eBay in the next couple of days.
