Marking shipped and no tracking number? Why?
Why would a seller mark something as shipped and not provide a tracking number? I know why one seller that I dealt with on this subject marked it shipped and then on asking them for a tracking number they came back with oh , I know what happened, your item was shipped to another person and I'll get them to forward it to you. Well of course I said that I wanted a refund and got it. That was a really strange situation.
But it's just happened again from a different seller. I 'm going to give it another couple of days and if they don't put in a tracking number I'll ask.
As a buyer , I need to follow up with tracking because sometimes the items get stuck and you have to follow up with the shipping people. USPS has gotten so slow .
But why , if they haven't shipped it to a buyer do they even bother to mark it as shipped?

All a buyer needs to concern themselves with is the latest estimated date for delivery - how does knowing where it is at any given time during it's journey help a buyer.
As to " I need to follow up with tracking because sometimes the items get stuck and you have to follow up with the shipping people"
Not your job, that is up to the seller if you claim it is not received.
If an item does not arrive by the due date, you wait 24 hours and claim INR with the MBG

·4 years agoI suspect manny sellers prefer that tracking inform a buyer of a carrier delivery delay rather than having buyers open unnecessary INR cases.
In cases of a carrier misdelivery it may be helpful for a buyer to alert the carrier sooner rather than latter for the carrier to sucessfuly locate & retrieve the package.
Just my thoughts

·4 years agoTrue, I I just don’t understand this obsession with tracking an item you purchase.
I buy a product, I see the shipping estimate, I wait for my parcel to arrive. I don’t care how many different parts of the country my parcel may visit, so long as I receive it in the end.
If a week passes beyond the estimated delivery date, I check my purchased item in my history and see if a tracking number has been uploaded – if yes I will check it out, if not I give it another week or so and claim INR. If it arrives later, I contact seller and organise payment into their Paypal or bank account.

·3 years agoCheck my post above, Bubba - We took a 50 grand plus bath because of no tracking number. Maybe to you that is no big deal but we are a 3-man shop and that is not just a minor inconvenience..to us.
I will never again deal with somebody that does not provide tracking numbers.

·3 years agoWHY TRACKING NUMBERS ARE IMPORTANT TO BUYERS
We just had a (still unresolved) problem with a seller not providing a tracking number.
We purchased a 5.5 KW Variable Frequency Drive on eBay. - It was for a $24,000 rebuild/refit job on a customer's large milling machine. The VFD was to be here in 7 days. and we ordered it 3 weeks in advance of day we were to ship the mill. ---- It has been 22 days and the VFD is not here and the seller has yet to explain why . (We ended up robing the VFD off our lathe and temporarily putting it on the customer's machine so we could ship it - they are very unhappy with us abut this) . At any rate the VFD is marked as shipped but we STILL have no tracking number or explaination of why it is not here.
Here is why tracking numbers are important to buyers. If we had a tracking number we would have seen that they never shipped it / or the location and progress of where it is. If we found it was stuck we could have filed a lost package claim with USPS and this always has worked to get packages moving in the past. Then if we saw it was not moving or not actually shipped in a week or 10 days we could have ordered another one from another seller.
As it stands our customer is really **bleep** and we likely will never get another job from them, Our big LaBlonde lathe is down and we had to send 3- jobs out to another shop (at a loss) and we are north of $4000 in losses because of not getting the VFD,,,,,,Plus we still have to get a new VFD on the customer's machine, which is in their shop in Pittsburgh. - We are in Cleveland. -That makes that a 2 day job with an overnight stay. More lost $$$$,,, all because of no tracking number.
Maybe for a jock strap geek who bought a baseball card the delivery date is not all that important, but for us it was devastating. - Our customer has 2-other mills like the one we re-worked. No chance they will call us about rebuilding them.
I don't know about the people that say just wait and file an INR if the item did not arrive by the projected delivery date, but the losses we tool on this job and the $48.000 in business we are not going to get and the bad will and black eye we got caused by the lack of a tracking number IS a big deal to us.
Having a tracking number can't hurt, but NOT have one can be a disaster
