Sometimes you just need to move inventory. Breaking even after costs can be a win if your inventory is high. Giving repeat customers a great deal insures they will come back most of the time. If you catch a seller at the right time needing to move inventory that is a win. As long as i make my number at the end of the quarter i am happy.
Got it for free or very low cost so just want to move it. Anything they make over their acquiring price after fees is profit so don't care about actual market value and could be less income taxes to pay. 🙂 I have sold many things that were break even after fees just to clear it out, some below market. Breaking even can be good too, recovering the cost of buying.

Selling post cards which you do is rather cool...similar items for sale...repeat buyers perhaps...and cheap shipping.
I don't ship inexpensive items with tracking...Without tracking my items arrive coast to coast 3-4 days.
And my repeat buyers like to buy something every week....so I need for their item to arrive quickly.
Repeat buyers are my honest buyers so there's no need for tracking and these buyers assume this form of shipping. Plus the feedbacks from repeat buyers also helps.
@krazzykats So true! Same as at an auction, antique show, antique mall, flea market, etc. There are items I get pretty cheap at auction, but I know I can sell them for more at my monthly antique show because I have buyers looking for certain things.
I got a very collectible book here on eBay, for my personal collection. It was signed by the author but the seller spelled the author's last name wrong. It didn't show up in the search for signed books by that author. I got a great deal and I treasure the book.
Online sellers differ by a lot of things. This includes "what is a lot of money".
Many sellers are pleased by amounts which are smaller than other people would be pleased by.
Many sellers know nothing about what they sell and if the receive more than the paid for an item, they are happy.
Many sellers need to pay their bills, and even if they receive less than they know an item is worth, have met their goal in paying their bills.
It can be very frustrating selling on Ebay and to have some of these sellers as competition. Often one waits them out and sells for a proper price, but sometimes they poison an item and it cannot receive the price it deserves on Ebay for many years.
@megafo_8472 I don't think that sellers as a whole are out to cheat people. Your FB comment is not true. It is actually difficult to get FB removed. Buyers can revise a negative, but sellers only get 5 of these revisions per year.
I would think that with some sellers they just want to get rid of things or have no idea the value of items. I sell some of my things pretty cheap because I get them in large groups and don't feel the need to make top dollar for everything.
It could be that they just want to get rid of the stuff and don't know the value.
But the more likely thing is that they're out to cheat people. And the worst part is that fleabay has taken to deleting a lot of the negative and neutral FB for dishonest sellers so they can keep cheating (and paying listing fees).
There are no set prices in venues like this. Prices vary as the crow flies. You can find some great buys or get your clock cleaned.
Some are items that were just laying around and the seller wants to clear them out. They have no real money into them and just want the space cleared out.

Buyers don't grow on trees these days.
Never overpay, or you may be in for a nasty surprise when it's time to sell.

Because they were stolen from the British Museum.
