Oh Well...it is done and I await another note from the seller when he gets his car running. Note that he did accept my reduced offer and I avoid $60 incoming freight. But thanks for the info. This is for 'the next time'. JK

@vnbuff ,
I guess i did not think to write when messaging the seller make sure to say you want to do a local pickup, do not say my phone # is, or you can contact me at... then if ebay will still not allow you to post a phone number the standard way try breaking it up 561 xxxx prefix yyyy, last 4 numbers. It was my experience that I did get the to keep ebay a safe place you cannot give out contact info, but then you click on the send message again button and it went through. But that was before they changed the formatting of the message system.
I will just send him another note saying I want to buy it and pick it up, then wait for him to fix it if he can. This is getting too complicated. Thanks for the help.

@vnbuff ,
I haven't bought a local pickup item in quite awhile and the link to a map was not on local pickup listings back then.
Because the item has local pickup as a shipping option ebay will allow you to message the seller and give them your contact information phone#... You may get a warning notice saying you cannot do that, but you should be able to send it.
As I wrote before you do not need to pay in advance of buying a local pickup item you can pay electronically, or in cash once you meet the seller and inspect the item. Read how it works in the link below.
That seller is not very experienced. Most of their feedback is for buying not selling and of the 17 items they have sold in the last year they have received 4 nonpositive feedback, mostly for audio equipment.
Their Description by seller info is either AI generated or copied from the Mfr's. promo info. It is not an appropriate description for a used item. It does not even say if it has been tested.
FYI, all of the seller's other current items give a Pompano Beach location, even ones sold in the last month. I'd want to know why that is.
OK I will try to send him my phone number. If it is blocked I will just wait to see if he can find a solution. In a couple more days I will buy another listed similar SW but this was the only local one. Big incoming freight for a 16" cube SW. This guy seems to have 'complications'. Not needed. Thanks for the ideas and research. JK
If it's the subwoofer this person's feedback is horrible and I wouldn't buy from them.

You replied to soh,maryl writing:
"Yes the seller has the 'free local pickup' there but when I click it I just get google maps with his location'.
Where you have to look to see if Local pickup is available is in the upper right side of the listing where you see Shipping: Local pickup and/or Cost & shipping method See details clicking on see details button will give you info.
If that Shipping: info does not start with Free local pickup then the seller has not listed it properly,
We could probably tell you more about the listing if you give us the ebay item number which is posted just above the Item Specifics box on the right.
To me it sounds like the seller is trying to take the sale off ebay which would nullify your Money Back Guarantee protections.
There should not be any issue purchasing that item with local pickup. Try this:
Put the item into your cart. Go to your cart, make sure this is the only item in there, then click on Go to Checkout.
Delivery (with shipping) is the default, and there are a couple of shipping services you could choose from.
Scroll down, and underneath the delivery options is the option for local pickup. Click the radio button to choose that. The shipping cost will be removed from the cost calculation, and you can choose your payment method and pay. It doesn't look as though "Pay on pickup" is an option, you need to pay online.
OK it worked...not exactly as you said, but the key was putting it in the cart. I found ways to finish. Now wait to be contacted by the seller. Thanks for the help.

With a seller with a reputation like the one you will/have bought from, I would not have paid in advance. If you meet up with the seller and the item is not as described, has undiclosed damage, is not working properly, or there is no way to test it... DO NOT let the seller scan the QR code or give them the 6 digit code.
You will have to file an item not described dispute to get a refund, which is why I never paid for a local pickup item in advance of meeting with a seller.

If a seller does not have local pickup as a shipping option on a listing, you cannot pay for the item without also paying the seller's shipping fee. If a seller does offer Local pickup that option will appear at check out, however you do not have to pay in advance for the item. You can wait until you meet with the seller and inspect the item, then pay for it if it passes inspection.
If you are trying to arrange local pickup from a Seller who lives near you but does not have local pickup enabled on the listing. (Usually that is the main Shipping option) They would have to revise the listing to add local pickup to their shipping options. Otherwise, neither of you would be able to add contact information in an ebay message, to arrange pickup.
If your seller does not know how to revise their listing to accept local pickup, tell them to do a Google search for " How do I add local pickup to an ebay listing? " If they do that then you will be able to pay without paying their shipping cost, but as I wrote above you do not have to pay before inspecting a local pickup item, you can just click on commit to buy.

·1 year agoYou have not given enough information about your issue for us to even hazard a guess as to what the issue might be.
First of all, does the seller actually offer local pickup?
How about returning and giving just a few more details, including, hopefully, the item number?

I don't, won't and would not allow it even if the buyer paid for shipping.
