Local Pickup
Guys trying to figure this out, if a seller is listing an item saying stock available in a specific location and offers local pickup, would this not mean that we can purchase the item and can pickup the item on the same day or maximum the following day?
Asking because I'm coming across scenarios where sellers says local pickup is available but they need 2 to 3 business days to arrange the item so it can be picked up locally. I suppose local pickup is there so people can avoid the postage waiting times and collect your item if you are in a hurry right? but if a seller is posting incorrect information on their listing, shouldn't eBay be chasing these things with the stores?
I have done this with many stores but there are few stores that always says they need 1 to 3 days to get the item ready for local pickup. so is this the way local pickup should work?

·2 years agoNot everyone selling on eBay has a store and ones that do might not have a B&M location, many work out of their homes so arrangements need to be made to pick items up because they are not full time at selling on eBay.
With or without an eBay store they could be selling something from their home that is too big to ship and good chance that have an actual job, selling on eBay is just a way to clear things out for them, not an actual business.
Even if they are a business, could be selling excess equipment that needs to be staged for pickup. They don't know when it would be sold so it's not stored in the work area till you make arrangements to pickup.
The list could go on but if it says to contact to make arrangements for pickup, then that is what it is.

·2 years agoLocal pickup avoids postage and packaging. I've done it twice in 300+ buys, both times delivery/pickup was the same day as purchase, but 2-3 days sounds normal, though not required.

Listing an item as Local Pickup Only doesn’t imply anything about how quickly it can be picked up.
The usual reason for listing an item as Local Pickup Only is because it is extra large, heavy, bulky, and/or fragile … making it risky and/or expensive to ship.
Either the buyer or the seller contacts the other after the item is purchased to make arrangements for its pickup.

·2 years agoI offer local pickup on all my fixed price items, I've never offered it on auctions, but my store is open 4 days a week and same day purchase and pickup would certainly be possible. As long as we are open on that day.

But if you are selling and item which is not in your store and if your supplier is having it, would you still list this item in your eBay store saying local pickup is available wherever your store is located? or will you say local pickup is available at your supplier's location (assuming your supplier is providing you this facility)?

·2 years agoSellers are supposed to list the city/state where the local pickup is intended to take place, regardless of item's current physical location.
If I warehouse something in Town A half an hour away, but I prefer to do the pickup where I live in Town B, then I need (per eBay policy) to state Town B on my listing, not Town A. Hope that helps to clarify @samlk35 .

·2 years agoWell I would never list an item that I did not have physical possession of. Since I work out of a brick and mortar store, my ebay items sit about arms reach from my desk. If I decide to sell one over the counter I shut down the listing for it first! It makes no sense to list things you don't actually have, especially for local pickup.

All local pickup means, is the seller will arrange with a buyer to meet and complete the transaction.

A seller could have a small shop with their warehouse in a different location. They could also be an individual selling something kept in a storage unit. In either case they may not have time to get to the item every day because of work and/or family obligations.
If you need the item quickly it would be better to message the seller about when they can meet, before committing to anything.

How is the seller posting incorrect information, if they state they may need time to arrange for a pickup to be done?
The link below describes ebay's local pickup policy for buying from those listings. No time frame is given for picking up an item because at times it may take some time, for both parties to be able to arrange a pickup time or place. Sometimes a buyer may be traveling quite a distance to inspect and pick up an item, or the seller may need time to get the item from where it is stored.

Thanks for the reply, but to answer this. If a seller is stating on their advertisement that the item is located in ABC, should it not be at ABC physically? if you are a seller who is selling from home and the if the item is at a Wearhouse at XYZ, the listing on ebay should say XYC and not ABC. So that way when the buyer is buying the item he knows if its local to you or not.
In my case i purchased the item as it was listed as its located in my hometown. But ended up waiting for a week and the seller still could not get it to the hometown location so I can do the pickup. So this means the item was not at the place as it was on the listing. This is my concern!

·2 years agoJust ask before you commit to buy to see what the sellers terms are.
You and the seller can come to some mutual agreement on pick up dates.
So yes it is the way a local pick up could work.
I know some buyers delay picking up items for weeks.

OP2 years agoYa good point, it goes both ways i suppose. Maybe eBay should set some time limits for both buyer and the seller so there is some sanity on this whole process.

·2 years agoI haven't heard other buyers complaining about this, so I don't think your time-sensitive situation comes up very often. Most buyers will ask about pickup before buying anything.
Implementing time limits would do the opposite of creating sanity in this situation. It would create unnecessary restrictions for sellers and buyers, make listing/selling/buying more complicated, take programming dollars away from other much-needed site improvements, etc.
eBay does not have physical retail locations - it's not like arranging local pickup at your local Target. It's unreasonable to expect any seller can meet same/next day without asking them in advance.
You're dealing with individual sellers and many work full time jobs and can only meet on a weekend.

OP2 years ago@wastingtime101 ya i took it for granted, from this post i realized despite of local pickup options, best to reach out to the seller before committing to buying.
Just that as I explained in my post with all my previous experience with local pickup, it has been that same day or the next day pickup hence why i wanted to clarify myself as I felt that the sellers are NOT mentioning the actual location of the item on the listing to secure the buyer.

·2 years agoLocal pickup doesn't have strict rules on pickup windows, except the time out window (Money Back Guarantee has a 30 day window).
Whether a seller can make the product available same day or next week is up to them and it's something you should discuss with the seller through messages before committing to the purchase.
I just checked one of my "local pickup only" listings, and there isn't even a handling time field since I did not offer a shipping option. If I did add a shipping option, the handling time would apply to shipping, not to arranging pickup with the buyer.

OP2 years agoHmm so there are no set rules for local pickup then! 100% agree with your i should have messaged the seller to see the waiting time for the local pickup i did not expect a delay as i was in a rush and this was not the case in my previous experiences. Thanks for the reply mate!
