Laptops from China at $30
Not sure if I am at the right place...only asking. A month ago, I bought on sale on facebook market place (CANADA) two laptops. These are worth apparently much much more. In fact, $2000 each.
I paid naturally with my MC. I have not heard of this sale since. The tracking no. provided is track178 and is in Chinese only...
Have I lost my money? a scam ?
Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!!

·3 years agoYou're actually very lucky in one sense. Most scammers require payment in gift cards or bitcoin, neither of which can be recovered when the deal goes south. But the fact the scammers allowed you to use a credit card leads me to believe they're going to use the fake tracking number scam. So be prepared to jump through hoops to win a cc dispute.

In addition, your credit card number may have been compromised. Better check with your credit card company for any "suspicious activity" originating in China or other locations.

·3 years agoOf course it is a scam. No one sells something for $30 when he could get $2000 for it.
And since you did this deal on Facebook Marketplace, there's nothing eBay or anyone here can do to help you, beyond telling you that you fell for a scam.
You can try a chargeback through your credit card to recover your money.

NO, you are not in the right place. eBay's Selling community is NOT where a reasonable person would complain about buying something on Facebook or from Walmart or from McDonalds or from . . . . . . .
Some life lessons sting more than others.
The only silver lining is that you lost only $30.00.

·3 years agoPeople really need to stop believing everything they see on the internet.
Think about it more than just wow it's such a great deal, I need to jump on it before someone else does.
In a time of high inflation and prices, do you really think there are low prices like this? I've been looking for a laptop for over 6 months now, but can't even find what I have (a 4-year-old I7 laptop) for less than what I bought it for 3 years ago.

·3 years agoThose too good to be true sales always are. There are sellers in a country I will leave unnamed. That list a lot of popular items for way below market value and never deliver.
Sellers with no feedback or feedback for penny items
Sellers with user names that look computer generated.
New sellers lots of high value items listed for prices way below their value.
Sellers listing items with incorrect shipping like sending large item be epacket or speed pack.
Sellers listing for below what they would cost to ship.
You can expect the fake tracking number scam. A junk item is sent to another address in your zip code. That is good enough for eBay. As stated you need to file a charge back. You were wise to pay by credit card. Next time avoid those too good to be true deals.

·3 years agoRegardless of where you bought the laptops from, the answer will be the same.
Think for just a moment - would YOU sell a $2000 laptop for $30? No, you would not. The only person who would do that is a scammer.
Of course it's a scam! File a chargeback on your Mastercard and never do that again.

·3 years agoHaving purchased through FB, ebay has nothing to offer in the way of protection.
It sounds like a scam but if "MC" is MasterCard, you have your credit card protection.
