Item not available in my area
I live in Massachusetts, USA, and have tried to buy several items from overseas. I keep receiving an eBay message that "this item isn't available for purchase in your location." When I contacted a seller asking why he didn't sell to individuals in the US, he replied that he did so frequently. What's going on?

·8 months agoThere are items which cannot be shipped to certain US states because of restrictions imposed by the states. Be certain that Massachusetts has not forbidden the sale of the items you want.

OP8 months agoThanks, Lotzo. Just what I suspected, but it makes eBay a very difficult place to shop.

·8 months agoMany overseas eBay buyers use freight forwarders.
EBay has the eIS freight forwarding program, but only in UK, USA and Canada.
You might try finding a Canadian freight forwarder where your European sellers can easily ship and the forwarder would send you your purchases after you have paid duty, sales taxes and tariffs.

There are a bunch of countries that have stopped sending to the USA due to the tariffs issues.
Basic scoop below from a quick google search. It has even become very difficult for many Canadian sellers to ship to the USA by mail. Canada post now states that tariffs if applicable have to be paid in advance. Many sellers just can't afford to do that. UPS/Fedex will collect on delivery. Canadian sellers are now using eIS to ship to the USA where it (applicable tariffs are paid by buyer in advance. As far as I know US sellers never paid Canadian's tariffs owing or customs clearance but that is only a hunch.
In late August 2025, dozens of countries, including major postal services in Europe (UK, France, Germany, Italy, etc.) and Asia (Australia, Japan, India, South Korea, etc.), temporarily suspended or restricted mail to the U.S. due to new U.S. tariff rules ending the de minimis exemption, making it complex for them to collect duties, though some later lifted these restrictions or offered workarounds for prepaid duties. The suspensions were largely due to the U.S. ending duty-free entry for low-value packages, forcing postal operators to handle customs fees directly, which many weren't set up to do.

·8 months agoTwo things to check. First have you check to see if there is a ban on shipping goods from the country you are purchasing from to the US? Some countries now have restrictions in place. It would be good information for us to know the country you are purchasing from and the item you are looking to purchase. Have you checked to see if the item you are purchasing is restricted by your state?
