Item is not as described how much percentage partial refund
I purchased a Laptop on EBay from a seller in America. I found out the item is not as described with no touchscreen. The seller offers partial refund. Just curious how much percentage it would be fair? Cheers

Add me to the bumfuzzled group. If you haven't yet received the laptop that seems to mean that you're anticipating issues, presumably discovered by research you did after rather than before the purchase? If that's the case, while you're still covered by the MBG, your not vetting your seller and item before the purchase undeniably contributed to it being "an unpleasant purchase experience". I sincerely hope that you've recognized the lesson here, to completely research a listing before purchase. That becomes even more important with an international purchase.

·2 years agoYou received an item that is not as described. Have you read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers?
You have 30 days to open an item not as described case with eBay. There is no need or reason to settle for a partial refund. Open a case. The seller is required to reimburse you in advance for the cost of return shipping or to send you a prepaid return label, probably the latter because you are in Au and your seller is in the US.

"I paid a fair amount of money for the laptop. Looks like my money is out for 2 months trip."
How long it would take to get a refund would depend on the shipping method used for the return.
When you file for the return for refund, the seller being in the U.S. would only be able to send you a return shipping label using a private system UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc. . They cannot buy return labels from Australia Post if they offer a cheaper and/or faster shipping method.
That means you would have to go to a post office or go online with the computer repacked measured and weighed to get a return cost to the seller's location, with tracking. You would have to send them the cost, and/or post a copy/screen shot of the cost estimate to the return and in a message to the seller, which would be reimbursed when the computer is delivered.
Before doing that you may want to login to your home site's community on ebay.com.au (link below) and ask for advice about returning an item to the U.S., on its community. I would post it on the Buying board, since your site does not seem to have dedicated shipping or returns boards.

OP2 years agoForgive me I don’t have much knowledge in the way of return. I did see a delivery agent near me offering FedEx service. I will ask how to return when the item arrives.
Thanks for your link in our home community. Very thoughtful!

·2 years agoSorry, don't understand your reply. If you were aware of flaws in the item before you bought, why did you make the purchase?
merriamwbster
OP2 years agoI wasn’t aware of the flaws initially. It is a totally misleading or deceptive sell!

·2 years agoSorry -- but if you were not aware of the flaws initially, are you saying they weren't described in the original listing and you have now discovered that the item is not as described although you've not actually received it yet? How did that happen, and, in that case, wouldn't you just open the not as described case when you do receive it?

·2 years agoI remember accidentally dropping a glass of wine on my laptop...Apple Store said it was totaled.
For some weird reason I went to a Best Buy and bought a keyboard ($50 USA dollars) to put into my lap top and it worked again until it was too old. After 4-5 years it's too old for anything. It lasted maybe 3 more years.
A refund I guess comes out for a keyboard...show a receipt of purchase and ask for that partial refund and skip the return trouble.

·2 years agoIf you wanted a touchscreen, how is a partial refund going to change a non-touch screen to what you wanted?
Return the item and never close a case until it's resolved. (Some sellers tell buyers they can't issue refunds, accept returns or offer partials unless a case is closed first. That's a LIE.)

OP2 years agoThe item hasn’t arrived yet. I will ask for return then.

I should send it back. However,
the seller might be dodgy about the return item and decline the refunds.
If that happens what should I do.

·2 years agoIf you open a Money Back Guarantee case the seller will have no choice but to refund. Go to the item in your purchase history, click Return, and select that the item was not as described. Four business days later go back to the case and ask eBay to step in. They'll send you a return label, and when the seller receives the return you'll be refunded.

·2 years agoIt looks like, at the time of the original post, this buyer had not yet received the item.
Can't tell for sure, but perhaps he realizes now that he made an error in purchasing the item that apparently has some flaws. Not sure, and haven't been able to determine that from correspondence with the OP, so I am outa here.

@merriamwbster
^^^ That is a number that only you know. Were it me, I'd be returning it and be made completely whole. Good luck.

·2 years agoIn all fairness, that's something that needs to be determined between you and the seller. Anyone on these boards trying to estimate that would be akin to attempting to give a haircut over the phone.
