Item I purchased was refunded without my request and then relisted
I purchased an item and within a couple of hours received a refund that I did not request. The item has since been relisted at a higher price under a different seller name/account. Is this appropriate and should I do anything about it and if so, how would I go about that? Thanks!

Did you BUY the item or win an auction? If you won an auction did you check the seller's feedback profile before bidding on it? Many new or inexperienced sellers take ebay's very poor advice to start auctions at a Low price "to encourage bidding" which often does not work out well for them. Your seller could have a fair number of feedback and even a 100% rating, but they may be all or mostly for buying. They could also be new at listing items using the auction format.
"The item has since been relisted at a higher price under a different seller name/account".
Did you open the new listing to see if the item location was the same? While it is possible for a seller to have more than one account, that is usually because the other one(s) may be for listing items in different specific categories. Ex Acct. 1 for clothing & fashion only, Acct. 2 for Toys & Hobbies only. If the seller who cancelled, created the listing using ebay's A.I. Another seller can copy and paste the whole listing as their own changing the price and item location.

The seller being new probably does not know about the 30 day hold ebay places on new seller's payments. eBay does not make the hold known as one of the first things in the Getting started info, and it causes a lot of problems for new sellers. If it took them a couple of days before cancelling, it was because on their account the payment status showed Pending. If you still want the item, you could try messaging the seller, tell them if they cancelled because of the pending payment status, to do a Google search for;
" Payments on hold, ebay " and if they do that they will find out what to do to complete the transaction and get the fund released.

OP2 weeks agoThe initial purchase was for 4 very specific items in one listing. 2 hours
later I was issued a refund without explanation. About 4 hours later, the same items were listed by a new seller with no reviews and no sales. at a higher price. Same location, same shipping charges. same pictures. There are not many of these items listed individually on Ebay. Very few. Let alone the same 4 combination at once. I did contact the seller the same day asking for a reason for the refund. I have had no response. I do appreciate your responses, but generally, just wanted to know if this was something that I should pursue further with Ebay and if sellers are allowed to do this type of thing. The seller apparently felt they could get more for the items.

·2 weeks agoIf the seller cancelled with the reason 'out stock' or 'damaged' they essentially self-reported, as either of those will net the seller a defect on their account. If, however, the seller cancelled saying either that you requested it or there was a problem with the address those are to avoid getting a defect. For those you should report the seller here.
As for the items being relisted by a different seller id, eBay allows members to have multiple ids. So there is nothing there that violates eBay rules.

OP2 weeks ago · EditedThank you for your response. The reason was "out of stock", but apparently not, since it was listed again. It may not violate Ebay policy per se, but what this seller appears to have done, just isn't right. Thanks for the link.

·2 weeks agoEBay doesn't judge the morality of sellers. You can of course still report them, but the defect they've already received is all eBay is going to do. But it doesn't take many of those defects to result in penalties ranging from higher fees to account suspension.

·3 weeks agoYou can report it but don't expect much to come of it. Unfortunately this does happen however you did receive a refund. This happens to me a lot as a buyer so I just purchase the item from another seller and move on.
