What exactly did the "potential buyer" say? Did he just tell you that the Rimowa is not real or did he suggest that he would be interested in it anyway, maybe for a lesser price?
I hope you don't take the word of this self-appointed expert and do as the others here have said: have it authenticated yourself.

·9 months agoI would get a second opinion from a trusted expert locally. I wouldn't rely on a potential buyer.

·9 months agoI think the chargback that @lakefor94 suggested might be your best bet if you're certain it's fake. I have had a CC company rule in my favor over 2 years later, but it was not a counterfeit & it was only $35. But if you're a good customer & not in the habit of filing chargebacks, they may have your back, as they did mine.

·9 months agoIf you have the seller's information, see if they are still selling this online or in a brick and mortar store. If they are still selling these today, they are less likely to be counterfeit. Other buyers would have noticed and they would have closed their selling account or store.
Genuine items are falsely identified as counterfeit.
I bought a designer purse from the genuine store front and have the original receipt. eBay ended my listing and I got a VeRO strike.
I bought a designer purse from the genuine store front and have the original receipt. It failed eBay authentication when I tried to resell it.
I bought a designer purse from an eBay seller. It passed eBay authentication then. A year later I listed it for sale on eBay and it failed authentication.
Buyers overstep their bounds and become self-appointed counterfeit police.
There are counterfeit coins listed from Chinese sellers. I reported that to eBay and I am super disappointed they didn't end all of the listings and permanently suspend all of their stores.
A heads up from one buyer does not definitely confirm a counterfeit.

Verify Authenticity (Don't take the buyer's word)
Before accepting that it is fake, use Rimowa’s official tools to check for yourself:
Check the Serial Number: Locate the unique serial number on the outside frame near the hinge. Genuine Rimowa items purchased since 2023 can be registered on the official Rimowa website to verify authenticity and activate a lifetime guarantee.
Scan the NFC Tag: For models purchased in 2023 or later, scan the NFC tag (located behind the telescopic handle) with your smartphone to retrieve a digital Rimowa Ownership Certificate.
Physical Indicators:
Locks: Authentic Rimowa locks are typically model TSA006. If yours says TSA007, it is almost certainly a fake.
Lining: Genuine modern Rimowa lining is mounted to cover screws and mounting points; loose or "baggy" lining is a common red flag for replicas.
Details: Look for laser-engraved serial numbers rather than printed ones, and check for six circles on the multi-wheels (for aluminum models).
2. Available Remedies in 2026
Since the purchase was in March 2024, typical buyer protections have timed out, but you have these options:
Payment Provider Dispute: Most credit cards and PayPal only offer a 180-day window for "not as described" claims. However, some premium credit cards have longer fraud protection windows. Contact your bank immediately to see if they can initiate a chargeback for a counterfeit item.
Report the Seller: If you bought this on a marketplace like eBay, report the seller for "selling counterfeit goods" even if the refund window is closed. This helps the platform track fraudulent accounts.
Legal Action: Selling counterfeit goods is illegal. If the seller was a business or a reachable individual, you may have grounds for a small claims court case based on the sale of fraudulent goods.
Report to the FTC: You can file a report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov to help federal authorities track the distribution of counterfeit luxury goods.
3. Responding to the Potential Buyer
If the item is indeed fake, do not attempt to resell it as a genuine Rimowa, as you could be held liable for fraud yourself. If you choose to respond to the buyer:
Politely acknowledge their concern.
State that you are investigating the authenticity yourself through official Rimowa channels.
If you find it is authentic, provide the buyer with the registration or NFC scan proof to secure the sale.

·9 months agoSorry but that number means nothing to the people trying to help and don't see anything listed under this username. Suggest you do some research before just taking some persons opinion. Not something most people here would be able to help with.

·9 months agoAfter nearly two years (March 2024) if you haven't used it, or if you want to resell it because you don't need it, you could try FB Marketplace or Craigslist.
Best to identify it as a counterfeit though rather than disappoint the potential buyer on your doorstep.

·9 months agoIt is illegal to sell counterfeit/fake items anywhere.

·9 months agoEbay, of course is 30 days. End of story there.
You might can get 6 months with your credit card issuer to file a dispute.
You are pushing 9 or 10 months.
Addendum, check that, 21 months.
Wow.
Is your buyer an expert you trust? Is the buyer pulling your leg? Just asking....

·9 months agoWell you definitely do not want to try to resell it.
What sort of "remedy" were you hoping for?
