Is this how duties/customs is supposed to work?
I bought a stamp collection from a seller (On ebay) back in September 2025.
Purchased 9/25 and delivered 10/04
Today I received (Scan attached) an invoice from Fed-EX for customs fees.
Customs fees are to be paid more than 5 months after the fact? To Fed-Ex?
I guess it was delivered by Fed-ex. After 5 months I really don't remember.

It hurts because they are some rather great sellers.
Prefer not to take a chance.
Got one of my favorite sellers from Macao buy a set from me 2 weeks ago.
Reason : seller saids it's currently OK to bid on his auctions.
Imagine a stamp seller buying from you to tell you it's OK to bid on his auctions at the moment.

paid any duty or tax in 26 years of buying from overseas seller. Not once.
There was an exclusion on tariffs (for buyers) of up to $800 prior to the last year......

·6 months agoNobody knows how customs duty fees (tariffs) work anymore. That is why USPS and some others no longer deal with parcel shipping from some countries.

OP6 months agoI guess if I owe the $$ for buying from Poland, Then OK.
I question the time gap 9/25/2025 to 2/24/26 before an invoice was generated.
And why am I paying it to Fed-Ex? Seems sort of strange to me. But I've never
paid any duty or tax in 26 years of buying from overseas seller. Not once.

FedEx initially paid the duties and pass it on to the customer. That is how tariffs work.

if it gets turned over to collections?

Fedex should not be trying to collect the money at this point.
