Is making an offer binding
Hi everyone, I just made an offer on a laptop of 60 pounds. but then I thought of some questions which I sent to the seller. the sellar says he will get back to me when he Returns home.
In the meantime The seller has accepted the offer and eBay is asking me to pay the £60 and make the purchase. but I'm wondering, do I have to pay right away. The seller has accepted the offer but not yet answered the questions.
Is my offer binding?

·2 years agoAssumptions are just that. You make them at your own risk. As others stated, you made the offer and the seller accepted, which sealed the deal.
I myself am guilty of thinking of things after making a purchase, but at the point, I will still ask them, but not making the sale conditional based on the answer. I jumped too soon, that's on ME.

·2 years agoSorry... Adding on... To me, good working condition would be that the unit works within reason. But not necessarily including external components not a permanent part of the assembly, such as cords, chargers, USB connectors, etc.

·2 years agoYes, offers are binding. So you should never make one before all your questions are answered and you're ready to buy. You also need to know that in the US eBay is rolling out a new feature where buyers have to select a payment method before an offer is made. Then that payment method is automatically charged when the offer is accepted. I would presume that's going to eventually make it to the UK, making even more important to make offers wisely.

·2 years agoYes you have purchased the item and you have (I believe) 4 days to pay. You are still protected by mbg if seller sends something not as described or you don't receive what you paid for.
You could choose not to pay but you risk an unpaid item strike as mtgraves pointed out.

·2 years agoGoogle the address of the seller...is it a house....in the USA? Check seller feedback....how long seller has been selling. If laptop is old....it isn't worth anything. Laptop will be very very slow. Battery might be dead in laptop. Is there a cord to it that is not broken....Not all cords fit every laptop. And the cord might cost the same price as the laptop you are buying. I have been there. I just decided to buy a new laptop. Laptops are only good for so many years.

HP 655 Notebook/Laptop* 15.6'' Screen Size* No Operating System Installed.
Good working condtion.
Power lead included.
It also said that the item had a 320 gigabyte HDD drive.
My questions were, does the HDD drive actually work? and does the power lead contain the battery charger?
Given the description of "Good working condtion", is it reasonable for me to assume that the hard drive actually works. And that the Powerlead includes the actual charger?

·1 year agoAn offer is binding. Any questions should have been asked before you made the offer. But if you get it and it isn't what he said it would be in his listing then you can ask for a refund.

Yes. If the seller's answers don't suit you (to the point that you don't pay for the item), the worst that can happen is that you receive an Unpaid Item strike. Use those carefully, though, as 2 in 12 months hinder your buying ability. Good luck.
Afterthought... moving forward, always make sure you're buying what you want. Questions before offers. 🙌
