international shipping program used first class.
Summary: spookylittlelizardgirl shared their frustration with a shipping issue involving an eBay order from the UK that was mishandled once it reached the US, causing it to be returned after being stuck for two weeks. Despite contacting USPS, they were told nothing could be done as the item was uninsured and shipped first class. Several participants explained that shipping insurance is typically a seller's responsibility and suggested utilizing eBay's Money Back Guarantee to address the issue. spookylittlelizardgirl expressed dissatisfaction, emphasizing they wanted the item, not just a refund, and clarified that eBay's shipping partner choices impacted the situation.
i recently ordered something over 100 from the uk. the uk shipping to here was great, fast and better than the estimated window. Once it got close to me however, my item stopled updating and stayed at a distrubution hub for over two weeks. i tried contacting the usps, but they said they couldn't help me because my item didn't gave insurance and was sent first class.
im completely shocked that ebay would send something to me with no insurance and my only recourse is to get a refund. i can't even attempt to get it rerouted and now it's on its way back to the ebay international hub in New jersery. im so disappointed because it was a gift for a friend going through a really rough time.
has anyone else had this happen? did you ever receive your item? i can't even find a place to talk to someone at ebay to get some clarity as it why they think this is a good idea.

eBay does not ship items, seller's do. Some use eBay's International shipping and some do not.
From what you have written it does not seem like the seller used ebay's international shipping to ship the item. They sent it using an international service that partners with the USPS. Had the item been sent via EIS it would have arrived in Illinois where their U.S. international hub is located, then handed off to the USPS for shipping it to you. If there was a problem with delivery it should have gone back to the hub in Illinois to be sent back to the U.K.. Perhaps if you took a screen shot of the tracking information we could tell you more.
If this was sent by the seller I think it was, there is no mention of what service they use for international shipping, On the listing page's Shipping line it says:
Shipping:
Will ship to United States. Read item description or contact seller for shipping options. See details
When you click on the see details button, it says in the Shipping popup:
"Check item description or contact seller for shipping options".
If you did not contact the seller to find out what method they would use to ship, that was your mistake.

OP1 month ago · Editedthe seller stated they had zero choice in the shipping once it reached ebays shipping hub. and he DID use ebays shipping hub because i can see it in the tracking.
oh and i guess i should have been more specific in that it's ebays third party here in the states that ebay decides to use that picks the type of shipping from their hub to your house. so sorry since it was sooo wildly inaccurate lol.
also it's not "the seller you think it was" because the listings doesn't say whatever you copy pasted.

OP1 month agoI didn't want to have to get a refund. if there was tracking from the ebay hub, i would be able to file a missing mile claim and then usps could at least try to look for and reroute it. instead of just sending it back to ebays hub.

You sound a touch confused - Sellers purchase insurance for their protection, not the buyers protection. Buyers have eBay's Money Back Guarantee.
So you are covered for the loss through eBay's Money Back Guarantee.
"only recourse is to get a refund"
Why is that so horrible - most court systems here in the U.S. attempt to make the party, who was wronged, whole again, and that is what eBay's Money Back Guarantee does, it makes the buyer whole again by giving them a complete refund - why are you expecting more that that?
If it is past the last estimated delivery date, open an item not received complaint and get your refund, that is how the system works.
